Jesus Iggy... where was that kind of shootout snipe when you were here?
The man's relaxed. He doesn't have to be team captain, do Vicks Nyquil commercials or rescue babies from burning buildings. He didn't usually didn't get started until late December.

Iggy has really been slick with his passing this season. Really top notch stuff.
Despite the CP consensus that he was an obvious problem, he actually did a good job on the boards battling for pucks a lot of the time and liberating them for his teammates here who failed to do anything with the puck a lot of the time. * For advanced stats guys, Corsi doesn't reflect that. The guy didn't have a center post Langkow/Conroy and the team fell short.
CP had him washed up and that was not a fair assessment. Post apex, sure, but better than he was given credit for

Just watched the Costas Tonight interview with Crosby. As a huge iginla fan, it always bothers me how little credit/praise he gets for the assist on the golden goal. I know most interviewers and analysts want to talk about the face of the game scoring that goal... but, if I was Crosby, I would always make sure to give credit to iginla EVERY SINGLE time that I am asked about that goal.
It was the biggest goal anyone could ever score in their entire life and he at least owes that much to iggy. Iginla is too classy and professional to ever have a problem with not getting the praise he deserves... But I'm not - so I say give the man his due!

Posted not just for the empty net goal but because he's out in the final minute, defending the lead, pounces on a loose rebound and is down low defending.
He's found a good spark to his game again, great to see. Not the indifferent casual player we saw in the last 2-3 seasons in Calgary.

Playing on a team that forces everybody on the team to work 110%.
His skill or talent was never in question, it was exactly what MMF just said, he became indifferent and casual in Calgary and was not working as hard as he needed to. However with that roster where everybody else is giving it there all every shift, both offensively and defensively, it makes you want to work that hard too.
It is why I always thought Boston was a better fit then Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh plays more of that casual style but they can deal with it because they have so much speed, Boston on the other hand is not only talented, but they will also outwork you and play a strong cycle game which is more Iggy's style.

Do they keep track of empty net goals? Seems like Jarome has a decent amount

I actually think there was a thread after he scored his 500th goal and people were discrediting him cause they feel he scored a lot of empty net goals. Turned out it wasn't as much as people thought.
Sure one of the more experienced posters could find it

If we assume he scored 2 of those goals into an empty net (which is actually more than his career average of ENG's per season), then throughout his entire career 5% of Iggy's goals have been ENG's (25/493).
I would say that 5% is hardly a significant number, and certainly not big enough to classify him as a "cheap" goal scorer. I would go as far to say that Iggy has scored a lower percentage of his goals into empty net compared to the rest of the top 10 active goal leaders.
Also, for a bit of perspective, Gretzky scored 55 of his 894 career goals into an empty net (6%). Maybe we should revoke his HOF status.

Iggy likes giving empty-netters to his team mates and doesn't like to score the easy ones. I just think that there are some Flames fans just don't appreciate the type of star player Iggy is and will never really have an appreciation of what he really brought to this team. It's really too bad he's with the Bruins now and not with the Flames.

Just admit that the whole team sucked for the past 3 years after B. Sutter took over or the downward spiral took place after D. Sutter decided to go fulltime with the GM job. Only 2 of the Flames really showed up to play most of those seasons - Iggy and Kipper. Other than that, really, the whole teams from the last two years weren't going anywhere. Putting Crosby, Toews, or any other elite player on this team wouldn't have done much as well. Just hope the Flames just don't go the way of the Oilers for the next 10 years.

What is the big deal with empty net goals? An empty net goal usually seals the win. Isn't that the point, to score, to win? Should only certain players be allowed to score empty netters? Would coach be happy if a player decided not to score on an empty net? Geez.

Yeah, you'd think Flames fans would understand that not only are they valid goals, but they're downright important at times.
I know the Flames won in the end - but an empty netter would have been huge here. Those who scoff at empty net goals make no sense.
I was surprised with the burst of speed he had through the neutral zone in that game against toronto, he must have worked on it during the offseason. Also there is no question that he fits Boston much better than pittsburgh
If Iggy still played for the Flames would we be a better or worse team than we are now?
I say worse. Even though we'd have more skill in the line up I suspect we would be losing more often and by bigger margins. No way this team would have the attitude it does if Iggy was still here as the captain.
