There was also this other guy named Henrik Zetterberg...

He didn't choose the Krug life. The Krug life chose him.

Yeah but Nichuskin and Barkov are 19. I'm not saying Sven's had a brutal year, but he's much older than both those guys.

Both guys are 18, hell Barkov has only been 18 for two months. Barkov is going to be a friggin stud. He's really the only guy from the 2013 draft that I wish we had over Monahan.

^Lol, much older? 2 years is much older now?
Other guys around Sven;
-Dekeyser - 23 years old
-Bjugstad - 21 years old
-Nelson - 22 years old
-Scheifele - 20 years old
Don't forget Nichuskin is playing on a top line with Benn and Seguin.
Don't know who's playing with Barkov but he's playing more then Sven.
Seriously, forget points! Just watch him play the last few games. I'll admit earlier in the year he was struggling but right now he's playing well, I hope he keeps it up. The points will come as he gains more confidence, gets more coaching, strength, more awareness.

The point was there wasn't a rookie sensation that year, at least if we aren't counting Jackman. Nash was one of the favourites entering the season, as any 1st overall is, but he put up a 'measly' 40 points and was -25. Zetterberg was not that highly touted coming over as a 210th overall from a league where Rickard Wallin and Mattias Weinhandl outproduced him that year (all the same age). He had to gain traction to enter the race and by the time he had gotten into conversation with Nash, Jackman had passed them both. It wasn't like Jackman was a controversial win, and even with the voting bias with scoring leaders the only people who didn't think Jackman deserved to win it that year were Wing fans and MacInnis' fans who weren't Blues fans. But the fact that Jackman was tasked with playing a Norris and Hart finalist's role since Pronger got injured and did a fantastic job should have resulted in that year being a landslide instead of as close as it was thanks to the terrible voting biases. Which is back to the original point, there's not a high chance of a defensive defenseman winning the Calder.

Don't disagree with the Barkov sentiment, but I'd also trade for McKinnon without second thought as well. Jones would be a tough call.

One thing about Barkov and Monahan is that they are playing centre, a more demanding position than some of the other candidates are playing.

No he wasnīt. Has played for a while with Boyle and Upshall. Barkov hasnīt had chemistry with Huberdeau really at all so far.
Bjugstad is centering Huberdeau and Fleischmann.

Barkov is three years younger than Sven along with Nichuschikin and MacK. And yes, when you are 18 three years makes a lot of difference.

If Krug stays close to the top 3, I think he has a very good chance at winning it. On any other given year, Phaneuf (and I am not a Phaneuf fanboy) would have won the Calder in his rookie year. How does Krug's numbers compare to Phaneuf's at around the same number of games?

After 21 games Phaneuf had 5G 8A compared to Krug's 6G 6A.
Phaneuf is on pace for 121 shots this year. He took 242 in his rookie year!

He had already blown up roughly 237 individuals at this stage in the season.

If only Trouba did not get hurt. He was on pace to be a Calder finalist, at the very least.

With his 2 pts in 8 games? I know he does a lot of other stuff away from the puck, but I don't think he would have ended up a finalist either way. Not with this rookie class.
