Other than Ducks On A Roof and their steak sandwiches (I only say this to balance out the negativity), the place is a dump.

I think fundmark moved out there over the last year. But perhaps he just ordered the wrong house...

Someone on here mentioned how in Cochrane they roll up the sidewalks at night. So true.
.... and Sundays... in Cochrane its like it's still 1953. Nothings open.

Well for one, it now takes them 10 minutes to get anywhere, including Cochrane.

Not many people contemplate a move to a parasite community unless they are somewhat unhappy with where they are right now. I'm guessing that's the case here. I don't think Cochrane is the cure to what ails you though, dude. Parasite communities suck for most people, but particularly for single guys.
Have you looked into the clubs and stuff the UofC offers (climbing, swimming, skiing, hiking, whatever)? I think finding a new interest to get you out of a rut (if that's the case) would be more productive to get you to where you want to be. My prediction is this will be a very expensive, difficult-to-reverse mistake.

The elevation and effect on your commute shouldn't be underestimated. You're the first to get snow/bad(worse) road conditions and the last place for it to melt without necessarily the same quality City services.
Cochrane was always a great day get-away with the highlight of ice cream at Mackay's growing up. The keyword is get-away and, unless you can flex your work schedule, telecommute or are retired, I could see how old that much commuting in winter rush hour would become very quickly.

Here are my responses I have lived there for just over a year
- What are taxes like there?
My property Taxes are around 2400 per year 1300 sq ft bilevel with large yard
- What new areas should be avoided?
I don't like Sunset Ridge or Riversong or Fireside I like to be closer to the town I am in west valley. If you want new home I would go heritage hills but Sunday afternoons during the summer can suck if you need to go east either into Cochrane or Calgary from all the RV traffic
- What is the typical commute time during AM rush hour from Cochrane city limits to Calgary city limits between 8 and 9 am?
I leave cochrane at 6:40 and arrive downtown 11th and 11th sw at 7:15-7:20 everyday. It is 20 mins door to door to Scenic Acres. Last winter there was only 2 days in the winter that caused significant delays getting to work. (more than 15 mins). My favorite part of the drive is that I am rarely in traffic. It is the same time frame to drive to Cochrane as it is to drive to my old house in New Brighton. The difference is it is all highway and no stress. It helps that I am on the right side of downtown and can just boot up bow trail and out highway 1. The highways are also much better kept in the winter than city roads. The highways will be perfect and once you hit 12 mile coulee the roads turn to crap.
- Do you like living there?
I love living here. I love not waiting in line ups. I love all of the restaurant choices and pubs I love all the summer rodeos and festivals. I love having a backyard and a garage.
- Do you regret it, or have you embraced leaving the big city?
I don't regret it at all. The only part that sucks is friends are less reluctant to come visit so I spend a lot of time going into the city to hang out. People on kijiji don't want to drive out so it is harder to sell things. It is impossible to get a drywaller for a small job. We also think moving to Cochrane is the reason we were finally able to have a baby after trying for 2 years. I should also mention that in Calgary I had 3 of my best friends living on my block and 1 lived 2 blocks away so it was quite an adjustment from going to visiting all the time and now seeing them once a week.

LOL, one interesting thing. It may end up selling TronFDC's house for him. I think that would be a first on CP.

An off leash park would probably be a good place to meet other people.

While I was looking up densities of neighbourhoods in the other threads Lake Bonivista is one of the lowest. So maybe it should be parasite lake community.

I should also mention there is a crazy difference in weather on Sunset Ridge and Riversong/Fireside then in the valley. I carpool with a co worker who lives in Sunset Ridge and it may be a light snow in the Valley when I wake up and when I get to her house they have over a foot of snow. The weather never seems to hit the valley as bad
