To be fair, he didn't even crack the top 20 in SV %, and didn't crack the top 30 in GAA.
He's an average goalie on a bad team. You can argue that other changes need to be made, they do, but you can not have average goalies on even average teams. The only time having an average starting goaltender works is when you have a great team, and if they're going to keep Dub until THAT happens? Well, it'll be a long road, they are a far was off from being great.
He is not a good enough goalie for that team.

Duby was 13th in the NHL for goaltenders last year with 20 or more starts. He had a 920 save %... which is good enough to get a half decent team into the playoffs.
He's having an awful start but I don't think he's the problem

20 games is an appropriate measuring stick for full seasons, but for a half season, you should be factoring guys that played less games than that. I will stand corrected though, for all goaltenders who played a reasonable starting or backup role he was 19th in the league.

Dubnyk let in a couple of stinkers and the defense was horrendous against the Leafs. But the real worry in Edmonton should be that the Oilers got the Leafs to play their brand of game and they still lost. If the Leafs managed to play their style I don't think the Oilers are even close in that game. It's ironic because part of the reasoning behind sitting Yak may have been that they wanted a little more toughness in the line-up and then the game ends up being river hockey. Yakupov may have actually helped them win that game.

Yak on being a healthy scratch:
“I wasn’t happy about it last night. You can say a million words about getting better but coach says I’m not playing, so I’m not playing.
“I’m not happy about it. I just want to play every game.
“I’m going to play my game. I’m not going to change but maybe play better without the puck, or forecheck more, but I love playing with the puck. I really don’t like skating all the time, and forechecking, and hitting somebody every shift. I don’t think it’s my game.”

Bob Hartley would absolutely love this kid
seriously, if I was an Oilers fan, this quote would really piss me off.

...and people thought Baertschi was pouting during the pre-season.
Can't imagine what the response on here would have been if he said "I don't like skating all the time".

You contrast this with Sven's response to Burke's comments. Sven was never asked straight up, but he has said that he needs to be better without the puck and in all three zones. To me that says a lot about the character of a person.
Coaching staff/Management tells you these things to make you a better player. It's obvious that these things aren't a part of your game, they're telling you this will round your game out. But Yak sounds like a little cocky sh*t that won't take advice from anybody.
I'm glad the Flames drafted using character as one of their primary evaluation metrics.

He's not going to change. Sounds like an awesome teammate and a wonderful person to coach.

"I really don't like skating all the time"?!?!! My god man, you're an NHL hockey player for crying out loud.
That's just brutal.

Wow. If that's his attitude, he won't be in the NHL long. So glad he's not on our team. Enjoy the pressbox, kid.

yeah, nothing wrong with how Eakins has handled this situation. It seems he'll scratch Yakupov tomorrow as well.

Unbelievable... I can't believe a "pro" honey player would say something like that. Oilers are in trouble and so is yakupov.

Pro honey players do it all the time, it's all those sweets. When he starts considering himself a pro hockey player then the Oilers are in trouble.
