Though you are in the media, so what is your take on it?

Glad it was Botchford. Would be happy to see him go/get relegated to Lions or Canadians coverage.
It's a weird one. It wasn't in a scrum, but Thornton did say it to 20 or so reporters with cameras/microphones on during Marleau's scrum. It's not like he was having an off the record private conversation with a couple guys.

Joe did say it with cameras/recorders on, he's got some blame here as well.

I don't think it's as black and white as it may seem, but I probably wouldn't have went with it if I were Botchford.

When other reporters are calling you out then it is probably black and white.

I think it's pretty telling that out of 20 reporters only one reported this comment.

I would question whether Botchford would have run with this had a Nuck said it.

In the media or the guys you work with? Because you do work in Vancouver and I can see why they'd defend the Vancouverite.

Well the picture was ruined when it was done with a San Jose jersey. If it was either of his last two years in Boston, yes, it makes a lot of sense. He's been very good in each post-season in each of the 8 years he's been a Shark.

If this will get Botchford off of TSN this might be the best thing to happen all season. How the hell did that guy get a job anyways? By far the worst personality on that station.

I wouldn't be surprised if NHLers made comments like Joe's fairly often but the reporters have the good sense to know its off the record based upon the content.

Just watched it. Botchford is getting "botched." I think he may be regretting his decision. Props to both Johnson and Lebrun for ripping him apart while Botchford just watches and tries to scrum up a response.

The more I think about it, the more blame Joe deserves if his intent was for that to be off the record.

There's a scrum going on and radio stations sometimes take those scrums live. Joe didn't know there wasn't a live broadcast of that Marleau scrum going on when he jumped in with those comments. There's cameras and microphones all over the place, he should know better. The comment isn't a big deal to me but I can't imagine the Sharks wanted that comment out in the public.

These were not off the record comments, they simply weren't. If they were meant to be, he's got to say something.

He's getting trolled pretty hard on Twitter right now and is pretty much biting on everything. Someone needs to tell him to put his phone down and take a break.

Lol typical Vanflamesfan post defending the Vancouver media.

Almost every reporter agrees he was out of line yet you're blaming Joe Thornton?

Haha, that's amazing. I've become a big fan of Joe over the years once he became a Shark. Here's hoping he wins a cup one of these years, right now he'd probably be top ten in terms of players not to win a cup (ahead of Iginla even).

Surprised he hasn't scored four in a game though: I imagine he has a couple hat-tricks, a and even a few 5/6 point nights.
