Reminds me of the NHL's previous Captain Serious, Joe Sakic.

His instincts on when to back off defensively are crisp for an 18 year old.

Makes me giddy watching him.

Kid is an absolute beauty. Definitely agree with those who say they see Toews in him. Just seems so confident and calm out there all the time. Going to be a treat continuing to watch this kid develop.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but this kid looks like he will never surpass Wayne Gretzky's point records. The kid just isn't good enough...

Damn I haven't been this excited for a player since probably Phaneuf and this kid is considerably better.

You don't have to be old to remember nieuwendyk. He only retired like 6 seasons ago.

I already posted this in the PGT...

but I think it looks good here on the 'first 4 games of the 2013 NHL season' trophy shelf.

2nd star on NHL.com. Great game from the whole line.

Baertschi with some great plays away from the puck as well. Both a +2 on the night.

No, but you have to be old to remember Nieuwendyk as a rookie.

What really impresses me: Monahan at 18 reminds me of Nieuwendyk at 21.

(And now, to appease the nonexistent Hockey Gods and avoid Bad Karma, although karma doesn't work like that at all even if you believe in it: Probably Monahan at 19 will be a complete and permanent bust and we can all go back to torches and pitchforks. There, happy now?)

*checks the latitude of Glasgow*

If you were there in winter, it WAS one really long night.

Someone(AC) needs to gif Monahan yelling "Baertschi... Baertschi....nice pass!" on the bench. About the 11:00 minute mark of the second period, I think. Great catch by the camera guy.

Will do.

In the mean time, I have discovered a horrible flaw in Monahan:
He's one of those people that says "I seen" instead of "I saw".

I see Monahan as having a reasonable ceiling of a Jonathan Toews... with a reasonable floor of a Joe Pavelski.

I hope he ends up much better than Toews!!

p.s. He's already my new favorite player... that's fun to have a replacement for Iggy so quickly (I'm referring to having a favorite to cheer for)
