Gotta snag tickets to the last few home games of the season as well. Still hopefull they might be the playoff clinchers. Or else they'll be the ones where they give everyone $10 beer and hot dog vouchers as a way for saying sorry we missed the playoffs again! Win-win.

Anyways, re: Street vs. Horak, in the few games I saw from pre-season Street actually looked pretty good. So it's not like this came out of left field and I'm sure we'll see Horak back at some point. He certainly hasn't looked out of place on our roster the last couple of seasons IMO.

I just don't understand why some are complaining about Colborne. Flames finally traded for a big centreman and people are still not happy. We haven't even seen this guy play and we are complaining about him already. Also, Horak is still a young guy...22 years old so i don't think it's a big deal that he start in Abbotsford. It's not like the Flames are not allowed to promote him sometime this season. TJ Brodie didn't make the cut at the beginning of season before but when he got called up after a few games, he just showed the Flames coaching staff and management he belongs in the NHL. I would rather have Horak playing more minutes in Abby than just sitting in the press box in Calgary. I definitely think he will be the first call-up for forward since he van play centre and wing position.

Unfortunately you still need a Jackman to fight if need to. He might not be as good a fighter that people thinks but I would rather him duke it out with MacIntyre or the other goon the Oilers picked up than seeing Glencross, Backlund or Bouma fight those goons. They are other goons in the Western teams and McGrattan can't be the only one willing to protect our skilled forward.

^Agreed. Notwithstanding that Colborne wasn't physically in camp, management looked at Colborne and determined that he was ready for a spot in the line up. I think Feaster all but said the only reason they picked him up is that he is "NHL ready". We shall see if that is correct, but I certainly don't see this as any kind of snub to Horak, or anyone else.

Judging by Brian Burke's presser, I'm a bit worried about Johnny Gaudreau's chances next season..

He's saying the team's already to small, as is.

He is not wrong saying the team is to small. That's why i don't get why some posters want Cammi re-signed? I am not convinced that they can trade Hudler in the next year and there is no way they could bring in Gaudreau if both of them are on the team.

Ideally i bet Burke would want both Cammi and Hudler gone.

Cammy is small, Stajan plays smaller then he is, Hudler is tiny, etc.

You make room for Gaudreau by getting rid of some of those other guys.

I would like to think that by the time Gaudreau is here, at least a couple of the smaller players are not. Guys like him succeed when they are surrounded by bigger players.

With the cap space we have and the major dilemma the Leafs are in we should be hoping he comes here. There would be a very good asset coming our way along with Liles and all it does is push out a guy like Butler/O'Brien/Russell (all replaceable guys without much of a future) out of the lineup. This is exactly what crappy teams with tons of cap space should be doing.

I would still rather not take Liles and take a wait and see approach on bad contracts as he adds nothing to benefit the team today. There may be better opportunities to use that cap space as the season moves along or at the trade deadline.

I am not necessarily a fan of bringing in Liles for a draft pick, although I don't have a problem with it, either. Burke said ownership has given the green light to spend to the cap, which means they can take on Liles and still have lots of room to make other moves later. This isn't a one or the other situation.

If I am taking Liles I would want Matt Finn throw in as well. I believe he was the guy the Flames were highly interested in when they picked Sieloff as Finn was off the board when the Flames picked.

Last season, they had a 22 man opening roster because Hudler was on bereavement leave, so I included him in the 23 man roster:
Average height: 72.6 inches
Average weight: 196.26 pounds
Average age: 28.5 years old as of October 1, 2012

Again, this year's numbers:
Average height: 72.8 inches
Average weight: 200.30 pounds
Average age: 27.6 years old as of October 1, 2013

So, this year, they're slightly taller, heavier, and younger.

Last season, Giordano was the median age (Oct 3, 1983). Sven was the youngest and Kipper was the oldest.

Stempniak and Butler were the median weight at 196 pounds. Horak was the lightest (170 lbs) and Jackman was the heaviest (225 lbs).

Last season, nine players were the median height of 6'1". Cammalleri was the shortest (5'9") and Sarich and Bouwmeester were the tallest (6'4").

Agreed. The other Leaf prospect that intrigues me is Andrew MacWilliam. Former teammate of Colborne on Marlies and Camrose of AJHL, and former teammate of Knight at UND. Big bodied d-man who loves to throw his weight around.

On the other hand, he could be looking at Gaudreau and thinking that we need to have enough size on the team once he gets here.

More generally, Burke has been around, I doubt he has the one-track mind you fear.

Also, it seems Feaster still calls a lot of shots, and I'm pretty sure he loves Gaudreau.

No more Leafs.

We don't want/need their scraps, even if they're marginally better than ours.

This roster is already too crowded, and we have too many youngsters knocking on the door. No thanks.
