Nothing I didn't expect (see the first post in the Line-up thread).

Knight and Ferland are good, but they're not NHL good. Glad they'll get some seasoning in the AHL and I'm sure they'll both be called up to the Flames as soon as injuries start happening.

Really all this means at the moment is that Monahan is going to get a 9 game audition which is something we all expected. A center had to go down for that to happen.

I'm surprised Street is here still over Knight.I think Knight brings more to the table whether he plays wing or center. He was pretty good in the dot and having another guy on the roster that can take face offs is a plus.

All that said but there are more cuts to come - cut today or in a couple of days = the same to me.

Just not enough space for all the young guys yet but before this time next year there will be. Groom a few youngsters in with the vets this year and a very young lineup next year and likely some very high draft picks this year and next!

We need those vets still on the team. If we just put in a big crop of rookies (which are by no means all blue chip), we'll just field an oilers-light team that'll get crushed every night.

I think a lot of folks have forgotten how young and what kind of potential Roman Horak is/has.

Ah, this makes sense of why Street is still here - waiting for waiver weekend.

Seriously. Baertschi put up a 7 game point streak at the end of last season and Bouma scored 4 times in pre-season. No way either of them are getting cut.

I hope Baertschi finally has his breakout year, would love to see at least 60 points from him. If he stays healthy and gets enough minutes with good linemates it shouldn't be too hard for him to do.

Looking more and more like Bouma has earned himself an NHL gig, now if he can only stay healthy...

I am starting to think Sieloff is going to get a couple of games in before he is sent back. Don't see the difference of him being sent back now or on Monday.

So what are final lines then?
Glencross-Stajan-Cammalerri
Baertschi-Backlund-Stempniak
D. Jones-Monahan-Hudler
Galliardi-Horak- Bouma

B. Jones -Jackman- McGrattan- Street

I think monahan gets his 9 games then is sent down with Knight/Reinhart called up.

I would send down Jones Street and Jackman and McGrattan being the 13th forward. I wouldn't have minded Knight/Reinhart over Horak though as well.

At first I was surprised Street is here and Knight isn't, but Street makes more sense to keep - Knight has 0 pro experience, so AHL time will be a benefit, whereas Street has pro experience, and if anyone is being kept around for practices, then sent down on September 30, he makes more sense

Players left by position, those in red are fighting for the final spots IMO:

8 Defencemen, 3 fighting for 2 spots:
4 - Kris Russell - D
5 - Mark Giordano - D
6 - Dennis Wideman - D
7 - TJ Brodie - D
55 - Shane O'Brien - D
27 - Derek Smith - D
44 - Chris Butler - D
50 - Patrick Sieloff - D

16 Forwards, 5 fighting for 3 spots:
11 - Mikael Backlund - C
18 - Matt Stajan - C
23 - Sean Monahan - C
13 - Mike Cammalleri - LW
20 - Curtis Glencross - LW
24 - Jiri Hudler - LW
39 - TJ Galiardi - LW
47 - Sven Baertschi - LW
54 - David Jones - RW
16 - Brian McGrattan - RW
22 - Lee Stempniak - RW
19 - Blair Jones - C
21 - Roman Horak - C
38 - Ben Street - C

17 - Lance Bouma - LW
15 - Tim Jackman - RW

31 - Karri Ramo - G
29 - Reto Berra - G
35 - Joey MacDonald - G

I'd love to see Sieloff make it, but doubt that happens. I also hope Horak and Bouma get the final 2 F spots, and that Jackman and one of Butler/Smith are dumped somehow.

What is the reason that 18 year olds have to be sent to junior on not the AHL if they are not in the NHL? It seems it would really help the development of some of these blue chip prospects to play in the AHL vs either wasting a year in junior or being rushed into the NHL. I can't think of any valid reasons why that is a rule

I think a lot of you don't realize that Knight is actually older than Horak, but Horak has accomplished more than Knight and is at this moment, quite frankly, a better hockey player. But Horak has also been in the system for 2 years now and "ZOMG! why are we giving spots out to scrubs lol!"

I am noticing more than a few people putting our only natural right winger on left wing. It's starting to annoy me. Please stop.
