That makes some sense, but it is also difficult to imagine that the Flames would throw these guys into regular season games without facing NHL-heavy lineups.

Wishful thinking on Maher's part, how many games do you need to showcase these guys?

I don't trust Feaster's word on anything, but it does seem unlikely that Horak would be sent down. However, I didn't think he showed to be above the competition in the last game either.
I think Reinhart is a likely candidate to go the AHL. Knight is like Langkow in some ways, he doesn't carry the puck but moves it forward correctly and quickly. There seemed to be a confident, consistent logic in his decision-making. If he were faster, he'd make the team for sure.

Looking at these lineups, and with Cammaleri and Hudler not inserted yet, I think some vets need to be traded, there isn't enough room to play draft picks. Can we relay on injuries to create enough spots for everyone deserving to play?

Every NHL team has fewer spots than players good enough to play. I bet most teams have much more difficult decisions to make in that regard than the Flames.

Probably a good sign that they can put baertschi on the lower lines already knowing what he has to offer. Plus it gives him more time on the defensive side of things. I liked your take on why he may be on the other lines adding a skilled guy lets other guys showcase a bit.

I am almost certain Horak is safe as he has to pass through waivers if he is cut.

Actually I think we will be pleasantly surprised.

Other than Jackman on waivers, which would probably only open a spot in the pressbox, i don't see other teams wanting any of our forwards right now.
The youngsters will get their time through injury and after the trade deadline.

Why does he have to pass through waivers? I thought he was still on his ELC?

Horak is waiver exempt. I think the likest outcome is Monahan up on the big club, playing on the third line but sort of a 2c given the make up of the team. Give him some time in all positions but he gets cut at 9 games and Horak takes his spot.

I don't see how Jackman gets a spot on the club right now. He'll be sent down.
I don't see the point of Keeping David Jones and maybe even TJ Galiardi around either.
SOB and Butler should be sent down too.
Street won't get a spot either, out of today's lineup.

Jackman if he is not waived, will probably spend a lot of time in the pressbox. Better him eating popcorn, than a youngster.
Galiardi was a good pick up for the 3rd or 4th line. Jones is getting payed $4 million a year and will be with the flames until that contract runs out. He is also big and can help on the top 9. Flames have no RW's so he has a fit.
Don't like SOB, but who else is going to make sure that players on other teams don't take liberites with our goalies?

They didn't trade for David Jones and the 12M left on his contract to not play him in the NHL. He's up, for better or worse. Galiardi seems fine, best case scenario is he's a versatile 4th liner capable of playing any position. With injuries and trades, or even if he just finds some chemistry, he may end up getting some top 9 time. Not a huge concern there, don't think he's taking a space up of anyone who truly deserves it over him. He's also only just turned 25.

I think you're a bit out to lunch on this one, with all due respect, those are good younger 3rd line wingers with size and speed. I could see Monahan in between those two IMO. I do agree with most of your other points though.
A few posters have alluded to this, but I think this year we're going to see a lot more balance in terms of lines (at least I think that makes sense and I hope that happens). As opposed to loading our top two lines with ice time, I could see a more even split between the 4. I hope Hartley/Feaster realize that the only way we're going to win games is by wearing teams down and continuously rolling lines IMO. Plus we need to give the prospects NHL ice this year and putting Horak between Jackman and McGrattan (or something like that) and giving them 6 minutes of ice as in years past just won't cut it.
We need to have 4 balanced lines as opposed to 45%/30%/20%/10%.

I'd like to see Sven - Monahan - Jones together. You have insane skill (Sven), defensively responsible yet creative, offensive center (with size), and a big, scoring RW with a nice shot who can also go to the net.
PS. And you don't touch Glencross - Stajan - Stemps, who have been on fire. On a side note, if Stajan continues his impressive play, I'd like to see us re-sign him.

Sounds like they are breaking up the Stajan line tonight, sigh. Backlund's playing the wing, Knight and Galiardi back to Center.
Can't wait until the preseason is over so Hartley can stop screwing around with the lines. He's been playing people out of position every game, it's driving me nuts.
Damn my OCD!
