Had an idea!
|
I wonder with the new 2 year contracts if they will still let us upgrade to a new contract 6 months early for no additional charge.

It's not uncommon that a plan change could be accidentally inputted as a new term. Hopefully it turns out nicely for you.

$42 after taxes on wind for unlimited everything. I jumped ship at a bad time.
Previous was with Rogers: 150 minutes and texting for $72/month total on what they called a $15 plan.

Do these Wind unlimited everything deals include voicemail? What is the difference between regular data and premium data?

From what I gathered from their website, the difference is that premium isn't throttled and there's a higher soft cap (ie. before "fair use" policy kicks in).

I have an iPhone 4s that I was able to keep when I left my last job. I was with Bell there, kept my number and got a personal account.
Voice Share 30 - $27 (10% off as I have no contract and brought my own phone in)
Includes 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends, unlimited picture and video bundle, voicemail, call display, unlimited nationwide Bell talking and unlimited text messages.
1GB North American data - $45. I travel to the States often, so it's great to never have to worry about roaming charges and can use my phone and iPad as if I'm in Canada.
Total = $72 plus tax

Is the data throttled? Now that I look at it, it looks like the data gets throttled after you surpass 5GB.
I also see that voicemail is $8/month. Is everyone else on these $40 all in plans not using voicemail or are you getting it included for free or are you using credits?

My $40 unlimited plan came with voicemail included but they don't typically offer that any longer....my guess is you'll see it as part of their Christmas promotion.
I suspect that most people use their credits to get voicemail. I'd argue that it's the reason Wind started offering the credit....it offsets the cost of voicemail (which was always free anyhow) but allows the consumer to some (albeit limited) choices. From my perspective, purely a PR thing.

Sometimes the offers include voicemail, sometimes they don't. You can switch to an offer with free voicemail when it comes along after you sign up, otherwise it's a $8/m add-on.
The premium data gives you a 10 GB (as opposed to 5) threshhold before your speed starts getting throttled.
Details in this link.

Up until a few days ago I was on the Country Fido plan. I had been grandfathered onto this plan for around 10 years. Came to about 100$ total for unlimited Canada wide, 850 minutes US long distance, and 6 GB of data. I just signed up for a plan on Koodo with unlimited Canada Wide calling, voicemail, etc. and 5 GB of data for 49.50$ per month. The plan was only available in Manitoba and Saskatchewan so it took a little bit of wrangling to get it all set up. Its a 55$/month plan but if you bring your own unlocked phone they discount 10%. Pretty much the same plan I had with Fido (minus the US long distance which I never used) and with 5 GB of data instead of 6 GB but its less than half the price. There is a big thread on RFD if anyone is interested in trying to get this plan:
"I'm gonna preface this by saying that I am a Toronto Customer who has successfully obtained this deal. After getting this deal, I did some searching on google to see if anyone else got the SK/MB $55 deal and lost it for whatever reason and discovered this thread as a result. I'll tell you what I did to get this deal, I'm sure it's been said here before, there are 18 pages.. but I did everything on my own (I used to work for mobilicity, and worked in the porting department.. tech support etc)
Living in Toronto? Ontario? Anywhere else other than MB/SK? Follow these steps:
1. If you are NOT a Koodo customer, simply go to a Koodo dealer and tell them that you are moving/getting a job/going to school to Saskatoon/Winnipeg (wherever) and you're here to activate a new line for your unlocked phone (iphone, android, whatever) for that particular city.
2. Tell them that you'd like the $55 Canada Wide promo plan, as it will work for you when you COME BACK HOME (convenience of being canada wide.. you get to keep your Saskatoon/Winnipeg number without paying long distance!!).
3. Give them your real address (So if you live in toronto or wherever, give them the REAL address where you live) and say that you'll update the contact info online later.
4. Pay the $9.99 for your sim card, and just casually take the sim card home. Don't activate it in your phone.
5. Set up your Koodo Online Self Serve Portal at home.. (the self service portal that manages your billing online.. etc)
6. Wait a few hours so your new number ripples through the network.... and port your original phone number (for example, your toronto number) on TOP of your Saskatoon/Winnipeg number.
7. 15-20 minutes later, your Saskatoon/Winnipeg number is gone, and you now have your Toronto number with the amazing $55 plan!!!! Hooray!!
Having worked in the porting department of mobilicity, make sure of the following prior to porting:
1. Make sure your phone number is ACTIVE, NOT suspended, terminated, cancelled, carrying a balance(if its a service like wind or mobilicity) or anything. Otherwise, it will mess up the port, and cost you more money in fees.
2. Make sure the account owner of your phone number is the SAME account owner as the koodo account you're porting to.
3. Get the pin number to your original carrier's account RIGHT, or it will stop the port from working.
4. Have your original carrier's account number ready."
