Rockets beat Portland 7-2 tonight to take both games in Oregon, that's 16 in a row.
4 games this year vs Portland and Kelowna has won all 4
6-2
6-3
9-3
7-2
Those are some serious beatdowns.
Wondering what will happen at the trade deadline next week. Can't see Kelowna tinkering with chemistry too much but they could maybe use another tough guy to ride pine but be available if they end up playing a team like Victoria or Seattle in the playoffs who will try to injure their way to a victory. Definately are set on d and in net, but one more scorer wouldn't be the worst thing in the world and they are still a fairly young team who could use a little muscle.

Kelowna doesn't have anyone flashy but damn they play an A+ team game. Ryan Olsen who I saw around HS seems to be ripping it up. Good for him.

Don't forget the last 2 had Petan, Leier and Pouliot at WJHC. Thats a lot missing.

The Hawks will also add Dumba if Minny sends him back to junior.

The Hitmen have traded for Tambellini's rights. His rights did belong to Portland. This will likely be a very costly trade for the Hitmen.

Watched Tambellini many times at the BCHL level and he was dominant. Interested to see how he adapts to the WHL.
Also wonder how much (if any) sway the Rangers had in the decision.

Its official, the Hitmen gave up their 2014 first round pick for Tambellini. Hearing the Hitmen are not yet done adding.

I am sure Edwards can afford the cheque needed to get him to come. Wouldn't be the first time they had to pay for a guy.

Why doesn't Kelowna get it over with and change their name from Rockets to Ogopogos?

Didn't think Calgary was involved in this sort of thing the way London, Portland, Kitchener, etc. appear to have been...last college guys I remember them getting were TJ Galiardi and Keith Seabrook in 07-08. Have there been rumours around specific players?

The Hitmen have been great this year and will only get deeper when Winther gets healthy and Tambellini joins the team.
Id love for them to add Kulak. It might be had now though that they have traded their 1st and 2nd.
Edit - Tambellini is in the lineup tonight and has an assist.
Edit - Two assists.
Edit - Just scored his first goal.
3-3 after two periods.

Ah, didn't see that, it would be cool to have a Flames prospect on the Hitmen, I doubt believe it has happened since Krahn. (Unless im forgetting someone)

Rockets picked up Marek Tvrdon today. Traded Zach Franko to do it. That's a risky move but could have huge upside as a pissed off Tvrdon could be a big contributor down the stretch whereas Franko's lack of jam and size was always going to be a problem in the playoffs.

I liked Franko but he was a supporting player and not a game changer when I watched him, on ice I don't see the loss hurting them much. Hopefully Tvrdon has that high end ability, the rockets are a wolfpack but aside from merkley I don't see any guys who can really put up goals with amazing solo efforts. I have to admit I didn't see him play a lot with the Giants.
Lots of moves with two days still to go, turning in to a bit of an arms race.
Red John what do you thnk of the kamloops trade? I like Revel but admit I was surpised to see the blazers moving 1st rounders when they appear to be in a rebuild.

Why Tambellini chose Calgary
Quote:
So while Adam Tambellini noted he chose Calgary over the team which held his WHL rights, Portland, because the Hitmen are leading the Eastern Conference, he had another big reason.
“There’s a level of (familiarity) here,” he explained. “My best friend is on the team in Greg Chase. We’ve been buddies since we’ve been 13 years old. . . . I can’t really be happier with the route I chose.”
|
Quote:
“It was more of a hockey decision for myself,” Tambellini explained. “Me and my family sat down and we really looked at the situation there. I’m looking to play a lot of games and play a lot of minutes. My choice to come to Calgary was pretty simple after finding that out.”
So he told UND he was leaving on Tuesday night, woke up on Wednesday, packed up his gear and drove across the border to Winnipeg where he caught a flight to Saskatoon just in time for the game.
|
Moore on the trade
Quote:
Not long after waking up, Tambellini got on the phone with Calgary GM Mike Moore.
“When we closed the deal, he was in North Dakota (Wednesday) morning,” Moore told Hitmen radio broadcaster Sportsnet 960 after the first intermission. “He went down to the rink, grabbed his sticks and skates and he texted me and said, ‘can I play tonight?’
“We hadn’t even had a flight booked yet, the deal wasn’t closed yet. So I said ‘if we can get you here in time and you can get your gear and we can get to the rink . . . then absolutely.’
“That’s what you want — a guy who’s confident. So here he is. I know he’s had a sub and that’s about it this afternoon. He’s working on nerves and adrenalin. He’s only going to get better as he settles in.”
