Scoring Winger

I thought Kulak played in Abby at the end of last season, signed a ATO. How does he go back to junior?

Disagree completely. Backlund is developing a nice two way game and will be around much longer than Stajan. Should be a good 2nd or 3rd line option for a while.

No real surprises as IMO Cundari and Hanowski are never going to be full time NHL players but I will be very disappointed if Begin is gets a roster spot. This organization needs to move past this type of veteran player that offers nothing on ice that can't be filled by a younger player.

He won't turn 20 by the end of the year, so he has to go back to Junior.
Once a player's Junior team's season is done, he can go play in the AHL for the end of the season and/or playoffs, but if he's not a 20 year-old player the next fall, he still has to go back to Junior at the start of the season.

Not sure about being "around much longer"? To me this is Backlunds year to show what he has. If he can't show that he is a true 2nd line center, my bet is they trade him.
As for Stajan, i agree that this is more than likely his last year. The odd part is that the flames want players that want to play in Calgary, and i think Stajan would re-sign in a heart beat.
Also i think Stajan will be used in the top 6 all year long.

I barely even noticed Nemisz in this camp. Has this guy all but given up?

It is unlikely that another team would take Cundari on waivers at this point.
It would be slightly more likely (although still not that likely), that a team might take him near the end of training camp if they were disappointed with their own depth on defense.
That could be why we was sent down now instead of later in the month.

I guess I'm just more convinced that Backlund will be a piece of the puzzle moving forward. Regardless, it would be short sighted to move a capable young center to the wing. They are too tough to find and develop.

I'm starting to think Wotherspoon has a chance. Heard he fit right in with Brodie and looked super steady.Ramage hasn't looked as good as he did early on, maybe needs some seasoning in the A. Not sure what Smith's role on the D is at this point. Seems just like an extra body.

Flames GM Jay Feaster on Poirier: "We're happy, but the time is now for him to go back and get with his junior team.”
Randy Sportak@SUNRandySportak5m
Feaster on Cundari:“There's no doubt in my mind he'll play games for us this year, but we've got other guys we've got to make decisions on.”

The last thing we need to do with Backlund is move him to the wing. We have enough wingers (and he'd be a LWer) as it is.
Monahan needs top 6 minutes or it'll hurt his development.
The only logical choice for me here is to trade Stajan for whatever we can get. Who cares if he'd be better this season than Monahan. He's leaving in the off-season anyway.
Give the minutes to the long term players.

I'm not sure I agree that Monahan needs top 6 minutes. I think as an 18 year old, he needs more sheltered minutes. The last thing we need is to have him play top 6, get shut down by the opposing team's top line dmen, and have it ruin is confidence.

I haven't noticed Horak on anyone's list, but Knight and Monahan appear to be shoe-in's at C. I think Horak will make the top 13, but it might not be at center.
Also, anyone notice this?

Is Kanzig the real deal?
Seems very under the radar for such a massive guy. Is him not being cut a sign of something bigger, or just a longer look?
Huge guy + high hockey IQ = I like.
Big = Good.

My guess is that the only reason he is still here, is to allow the forwards to get practice playing against big defensemen.

You're dead wrong there.
Though have to say im not opposed to the idea of moving Stajan.

Feaster -
Flames will carry two goalies; one of the remaining three will be in Abby;
will have to find ice time for one of Ortio or Broissoit, perhaps as a loan to another team
