I listened to the other tracks off the deluxe album and it makes me appreciate the album so much more. The extra tracks are pretty good. I'm no hick, but he had hick tracks that sounded good!

People seem to be really feeling this album, maybe I should check it out. Not the biggest Em fan and definitely am not a fan of rap god.

I've been a big Slim Shady fan for a long time but think I'm starting to fall out of love with him. While this album, like most of his albums, shows he is an amazing lyricist, probably the best in mainstream hiphop, it also shows he's the same guy he was 15 years ago with regards to his views on women and homosexuals. I don't really want/need/have any desire to hear gay/women bashing while I'm trying to listen to hiphop music, this is 2013 not 1993.
Technically, still one of the best in the game. Lyrically? Not even in the top 30.

So after alot of listens, Legacy is probably my favorite song ive decided. The song where he doesn't rap would be my least favorite song. Which is a little odd cause Halies Song is one of my favorite eminem songs.

Don't get me wrong, his creativity is amazing, one of the things I've always loved about him. And as I stated in my first post, nobody can deny his technical prowess on the mic. But I stand by what I said, I don't think he would be in my top 30, looking at it strictly from a lyricism stand point. And that's for a couple of reasons:
Firstly, as touched upon in my post above, I have a real hard time listening to homophobic and misogynistic lyrics lacing a large portion of his songs and I have an even harder time considering someone who has to resort to those sorts of lyrics a top lyrical emcee. I didn't mind that kind of stuff so much when I was 15 years old and listening to SSLP and even when I was 18 and listening to the Eminem Show. But in the last 15 years not only have my views progressed leaps and bounds as I've matured, but societies views have as well and I kind of hoped Eminem, who is now 40+ years old, would have matured a bit too.
Secondly, on his last few albums (this one included) Eminem has 2-3 songs that are pretty great-awesome lyrically, but he also has 10-15 that are average to below average lyrically. The artists I would put in my top 30 (and to clarify, I haven't made this list. Who knows, Eminem might sneak into the late 20's) put out albums with 10-12 great-awesome lyrical tracks. When I think great lyrical emcees, I think legends like Masta Ace and Slick Rick, I think underground legends like Gift of Gab and Slug (Atmosphere emcee), hell I think of the THE Living Legends!
Just my take and despite all that, Eminem is still close to, if not at the very top of my list as far as hip hop artists I hope to see live one day - because he is that dam skilled.

Em is a top 10 all time MC and lyricist IMO. In his prime he had untouchable skills that very few emcees today can touch. While a lot of this subject natter and content was extreme at times he still displayed a lot of passion and love for his craft that several people, even those who don't like him, can admire. He's one of the main reasons I feel in love with hip hop and he'll always be quite possibly my favorite rapper.

He still has all those skills, he just hasn't matured as a person and for those of us who have literally grown up with him it's pretty disapointing. I kind of thought that while the rest of us (society) matured over the past 20 years maybe he would too?
I guess he has no interest in making music for those of us that have been with him the whole time, because I can assure you there aren't many late 20/early 30 year olds that love hearing him go off on another gay bashing rant or takling about beating women. And using the word "passion" to describe some of the absurd and disturbing lines he uses to describe gays and women on this album is frankly a bit sad.
And with regards to not being in the top 30 lyrically, that wasn't all time, that's right now. Hell if we're going to look back at some of the amazing lyricists that started this game to begin with Eminem would be lucky to crack the top 50.

He never went on big "gay" rants. He just used the words f##### and gay as derogatory words which is still quite widespread...
As for the women beating, he hasnt had a serious song like that in a while (something like "kim"). He has had songs where he jokes about it but thats just eminem. If not doing that means no more songs like Love Game than no thank you. Its just jokes.
Also, while he still has the joke songs about women, he also mentions how its hypocritical of him when hes a parent multiple times on the album. He also apologizes to his mom....

That is one of the best songs on the album, IMO. Overall its a great album, and one thing about it is the sheer quantity. Well over an hour and a half, which is pretty impressive in this day and age when others are half that.
Some songs I don't like, but some really good ones to make up for them.

No offence kipperfan, but how can you say better than eminem currently then list people who's body of work in the last handful of years is next to nothing?
You can talk lyrics but also flow, production and overall entertainment factor all end up being important to a great project.
I used to be a huge Em fan until 2002/2003 and can honestly say this is immeasurably better than anything he's released since then.
And that song with Kendrick was fire!

This album is awful. He peaked at eminem shoe and it's been downhill since with recovery being ok.
With the dumb voiced dated productions and no substance. Eminem should hang em up.

I'm sorry PeteL but where you expecting another Slim Shady LP? The guy is past that point in his career and he has changed, accept it. Also he hinted that this is likely his last album.

Have you ever read this guys posts? Check out any Stamps game thread. If you thought moon was the most negative person on Calgarypuck, you were wrong. It's PeteLfan. The only difference is PeteLfan doesn't post very much, so he's not as noticeable.
