Why can't there just be random acts of kindness anymore? I think it's great.

lol you sound really naive to be honest. I've worked in marketing. This is exactly the kind of stunt we'd sit around talking about in the war room all the time. It has run its course and no doubt Tim's wants it to stop, but it's very likely they started it.

Can you list the donations and charitable acts you have been a part of in the last year so we can all sit here and judge what you felt would be your way of giving back?
How about you donate $500 to the red cross and then you won't need to judge what others do?
BTW, half my nieghbourhood had their basement destroyed and 5 weeks later I have barely noticed the red cross. I'm sure they do great things obviously elsewhere, but if I were to list the companies / organizations who have been a part of rebuilding here the Red Cross wouldn't be in the top 10.

Can you list yours before you judge him?
BTW, my understanding is the Red Cross doesn't usually get involved in "rebuilding". They are initial response to events. I was in High River the first day it opened. The Red Cross presence was noticable and large.

Sure, $500 to the United Way and just under $500 to a school that helps developmentally challenged people for 2013. All good for me to point out how lame it is to judge how other people donate money or do you have anything else that's completely irrelevant?
Speaking of irrelevant, I'm not sure what your Red Cross point has to do with anything, my neighborhood isn't just rebuilding, it had a disaster first. Didn't see much of them during either period. Which is fine, they don't owe anybody anything, but its proof to me there isn't a right and wrong way to donate money. the RC definately gets alot of pub, but I have first hand experience in dealing with the 1st or 2nd largest disaster in Canada's history and I don't think I saw the RC cross. I saw lots of Tim Horton's coffee though!

If they started it, why would they pick a random Tims in Edmonton? Wouldn't it have gone further if they, say, did one in Toronto and then one in Montreal a few days later?

I don't see the difference; in fact starting in Alberta seems logical to me given recent events. More believable.

You asked him for that information. How you being asked for it when judging his opinion is "completely irrelevant" is beyond me.
Again, you brought up the Red Cross. You said, and I qoute:

I saw them lots when I was in High River. Perhaps, they looked at where their efforts could be most useful or were in greatest need and took at at places other than you house.

hooly. people are going off on this. has no one on here ever heard of the chive? its about paying it forward and being a good person. so what if it was tim hortons and a marketing ploy; no nobody in that lineup needed the coffee but it was a nice treat and great way to have your day started. i bet 99% of those people went to work at the job they hate in a great mood. marketing ploy, random act of kindness... doesnt matter its a nice thing to have happen.
