For a team dealing with entitlement issues giving a long term contract to a player that hasn't earned it doesn't make much sense. He has 100 GP, only a handful of them in a non sheltered role. The talk of long term contracts is ludicrous.

And Brodie likely doesn't accept which is why we are where we are right now in this negotiation.
There is a reason that RFA negotiations take a while across the league. There is no real pressure for either side to sign until closer to training camp.
Player might as well wait it out a bit and hope the offer improves.

Two way or one way deal? Any bonus structure to that?
The negotiations are a little more complex than you are making them seem, which is why it takes longer.
Just because he didn't sign day 1 doesn't mean there is an issue with getting him signed.
Feaster has more to do than just try and sign Brodie, and Brodie's agent has more clients than just Brodie.

And then there are all of the other options.
Does Brodie want a 3 year deal to ensure that he gets more cash. Does either side want to get creative and go long term at a lower rate to reduce Brodies risk and offer the flames some benefit. There are probable 3 or 4 rdifferent options that would satisfy both sides.
And what is the point of rushing it there is plenty of time before training camp. He isn't in the prospects camp. Along has his agent and feaster are talking through the various options and have meetings scheduled then I don't see the problem.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure you just flick up on the controller and then hit "X" when you get to the number you want, and then shortly after Brodie sends you an automated message that he's accepted the contract.

If I'm Brodie, I prefer short term. His stock is rising. He'll be in an expanded role this year. His contracts will only get bigger as time passes.

Small update from Feaster:
Pat Steinberg@Fan960Steinberg26m
Feaster also said they'll be resuming talks with TJ Brodie's camp now that development camp has concluded. #Flames

Why don't they just bring in StayGolden to get this one done really quick and painlessly?
StayGolden just walks into the room and goes "hey TJ, SG here. Listen, 1.4 - 1.7 mil on a 1 or 2 year contract. Write in whichever variation of that you want, then sign on the line, then I will walk out to the media and go 'Done!', and then I will fire feaster and be the new GM of the Flames. "What do you mean you're not accepting that and want to negotiate? Listen, I don't think you understand how contracts work. I come in and offer you something, you sign it, and then I go 'Done! and it's done".

This is annoying that this has not been completed.
What would Feaster do if he had Allstars on the Flames he had to resign.

2 way deals, short term, slight overpay if need be are the way to go until UFA land.

There is no way he is signing a two way deal.

While i have no problem with Feaster taking his time and getting it right, the above quote does puzzles me?
From what i have read over the years, agents and GM's do not lock themselves in a room to hammer out a deal. Most of the time it seems to be a bunch of 15 minute phone calls over days, weeks and months. I have never understood when GM's say we can now focus on "this player" now that "xx" is done. They don't have time for a 15 minute call in the offseason?

Absolutely! Give him two years and let his play decide how the next contract goes. If his progression slows then you get him for a good price in his last RFA year going into free agency. And if he kicks the doors in and plays himself into a big contract then its win win and the Flames still have some control with the last year being restricted.

Likely just a negotiating tactic. Gives Brodie time to consider previous offers, and perhaps pressure his agent to get something done.
It also sends the message that the Flames have other things to worry about than getting desparate to sign a young RFA defenseman with one good season.
