I just hope they aren't lowballing him... he gave them a sweetheart deal last year and responded by generally being the best player on the ice for the Flames. Time for them to pay up and lock him down longterm IMO.

That would be a UFA opportunity.

He's earned a long term deal based on his play, but I don't think the team will be comfortable signing him for more than about 3 years given his injury history. On the bright side, I can't see any other team being comfortable signing him to a long term deal either, so we'll probably be able to sign him eventually.

I am not sold on Couturier but I think Schenn still has #1 C upside.

Feaster probably should have kept that to himself. We all know the cost of getting a top 6 center in trade and the flames don't have the assets to get it done. At least not enough assets that we could spare.

Which teams could conceivably give up a center that fits that type of player we're looking for?

Bet nobody asks about Raymond - everyones too embarrassed that they "leaked" it yesterday and it wasn't even true.

Backlund won't get a big pay day in arbitration. The best bet for him is to sign another 1 year deal and take advantage of a weak C.
Brodie on the other hand good get a decent arbitration ruling based on some of the big contracts. His limited number of GP and low draft pick probably works against him though.

I'm fine with him announcing that he is still open to trades or even actively hunting them out. The rumour is already out that Cammalleri has asked to be traded and he would be a good component in a trade to a team that needs to win.
Cammi at half salary to the Flyers for Couturier would be an exciting trade.

He has been saying this same thing the last two years knowing full well it's not an easy venture.

Yes, I realize that. Thanks for pointing that out. Still doesn't answer the question.

It's also a trade the Flyers would never make.

I'd like to see 4 years for Backlund at 2 or 2.5 ... but I might be alone on that.

Philadelphia has to be the prime target, but they're going to want Giordano in return. I'd do it for Couturier, but I'm not sure that Feaster would if he's really pencilled in to be the next captain.
Long term, Couturier is a great 3rd line center or an adequate 2nd line center on a good team, but he can handle top line duties for us for now.

2 would be better but not that bad of a deal even if he never pans out so either is fine...same with brodie.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Brodie would be arbitration eligible.
Hopefully somebody more CBA knowledgable can chime in here.
