Would love to move up to take Barkov if it costs us #6 and Tanguay/Cammellari.
I also think that Nichuskin would be a great pick at 6 if the Flames got a good read on him at the combine and interviews.
I am also in the camp of taking Fucale with our remaining 1st round pick and moving players for 2nd rounders.

#1 Goaltender
|
Hopes:
1) Use all three picks Monohan/Nichuskin/Lindholm - Morrissey/Gauthier/Zykov - Compher/McCoshen
2) Package some combination of picks and players to get MacKinnon/Drouin/Barkov
3) Trade #28 for Chris Stewart
4) Trade Tanguay and/or Cammalleri
Fears:
1) Draft a goalie in the first round
2) Draft Mantha or Domi

I feel that a lot can go right for the Flames here;- Use all three picks on players that turn into regular NHL players and at least two of them major contributors. I don't feel this is too much to ask given the perceived depth in this draft.
- Trade up to get Barkov can be a franchise changer if he fulfils projections
I also feel a lot can go wrong for the Flames here;- Maybe it's just me but I get the feeling these three 1st round picks are burning a hole in Feaster's pocket and that one or more of them will be dealt for returns that don't make a lot of sense like turning a 1st into two 2nd round picks or tradking a 1st for another stop gap player.
- Flames pick a goaltender in the 1st round. It simply hasn't worked for the franchise......ever. This also deals a crushing lack of confidence blow to all the young goaltenders in the organization despite a couple of them looking just as good as Fucale who may or may not be a great goaltender as it's hard to gauge how good a goaltender is when he backstops such a dominant team.
- Draft Nichushkin with the 6th pick. This is low on my list of fears because he doesn't fit the profile Weisbrod says in that they are looking for players that legitametly want to be a Flame and is proud to wear the jersey. Drafting Nichushkin would be a complete 180 from their supposed draft strategy.
I do fear also what is out of the Flames control in that if they and the Oilers stay 6,7 that if the Flames pick one of Lindholm/Monahan that the Oilers get the other guy and he turns out to be the better player and have the better career. This is out of the Flames control as nobody has a crystal ball but the optics would suck as it would be something that the Flames fans would have to face every time the two teams play each other.

Even then you do not make that pic becase a) we have great goalies in our system and b) we can pick a talented forward/defenseman at #6.

Hope: Draft Nichushkin so 2/3 of CP explodes in rage then eats crow when he becomes a key component to the franchise.
Hope: Late round draft picks become key depth players
Hope: Oilers/Canucks draft flops and make no splashes in the trade/UFA market.
Fear: Goalie in the first round.
Fear: Bad trades are made to try to move up.
Fear: Trade down at all.

Hopes:
- draft Monahan or Lindholm at 6 ... or Barkov, if the hockey gods want to do us a favour
- draft a big winger at 22, Zykov or Mantha, if still available
- draft Morrissey at 28 if still available OR
- trade 28 to MTL for 36 and 55 - draft McCoshen and Dano
- trade veteran(s) for more picks!
Fear:
- we take Nichushkin and Fucale in the first round and trade the 3rd first for "immediate help" ...

I think we can all agree the Flames' defence was deplorable last season.
Wideman - Butler
Giordano - Bouwmeester
Brodie - Smith
Sarich
Awful. Just AWFUL.
Looking ahead, this is what the Flames have to look forward to.
Wideman - Brodie
Giordano - Butler
Smith - Cundari
Sarich
Yup, essentially zero change. So once again, we can expect Calgary's defence to be awful in the 2013/2014 season.
But wait, there's light on the horizon...
Brodie - Wotherspoon
Sieloff - Morrissey
Ramage - Cundari
Breen
If Calgary manages to land someone like Morrissey in the first round on Sunday, this is the d-corps they will be able to ice in the 2014/2015 season. This would be a huge boon for this franchise, but in order to make it happen, they need to trade away guys like Wideman, Butler, Giordano, Sarich and Smith.
My biggest hope for this draft is that Feaster somehow figures out how to move these guys out to make room for the kids.

Hope for #6- Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm
Fear- Fucale
Hope for #22- Zykov
Fear: Gauthier
Hope for #28- A big, skilled D-man
Fear: Gauthier/ Fucale
Of course, my first overall wish was a way to snag MaKinnon, but I know it's unlikely.

Hope: Feaster takes the stage and announces to the world that "Flames are open for business" while grinning at the Oil table.
Fear: None.

Why would Feaster have to move all those D-men in this draft, when in your proposal the "kids" would not be ready until 2014/15.
Also that line up of young D in 2014/15 would get taken to town.

Unless ever guy on that list takes huge steps forward in their games if that is the defense we ice in 2014/15 we probably set the GA record even with a Vezina performance from our goalie.

An awesome scenario for the Flames in this draft, would be to somehow pick up #5 from Carolina without losing #6, and then have Nashville pick Nichushkin at #4.......walk away with Barkov and Monahan.
