My company has an office by MEC that was unaffected by the floods and still has power.
We received an email telling ups to stay home on Friday and a follow up to stay home on Monday as well. They will pay everyone and recommended that people who are not directly affected spend their time helping out in any way.

They mentioned that while it was possible to show up at the office they would like to request that everyone stay home out of respect for the City's request and the work that will be ongoing today.

Anyone personally affected is to contact upper management directly to obtain support.

Definitely a classy response.

I work in Inglewood, but it's bone dry at my office. Power is out, though, which means no work today! Plus, getting through 9th Avenue is a huge problem at the moment, one of the few ways into the neighborhood.

I was working with the Calgary Zoo on a project, looks like that's likely on hold... for the foreseeable future.

Here's to having tomorrow off too! I'm crossing my fingers!

Just got another email from our VP, they're complying with the city's request to stay out of downtown tomorrow so we get another day of working from home. And as it's an oil service company with hundreds of pumper trucks, they're already being deployed in Medicine Hat and Drumheller to start pumping out water (also in contact with City of Calgary, Okotoks, and High River to see where they can help). They're also starting to organize volunteer committees to help cleanup in the weeks ahead, and I'm going to try and get involved with that as soon as I can (I've felt rather useless out here in Chestermere the past few days)

I really like my employers

I don't work downtown, so it was business as usual today. Getting to work, however, was a 2 hour ordeal (normally it's a 20 minute drive) and I am dreading the commute back home.

Not at all happy with how my company handled things to be quite honest.

The Crown is doing bail hearings at the court house, because those in custody have the right of a bail hearing within 3 days.

Enerplus, mid sized O&G company.

They want us to follow the mayor's instructions and stay away from DT for now, so they sent out another note saying that we should work from home tomorrow as well.

Although things like having challenging work, competitive salary/benefits, advancement opportunities, etc are always important, I think more and more employers realize that there is a lot more to a job than showing up, working, and getting paid.

Centennial had their sump and diesel pumps flood, their generators had no fuel because of this, so they had no backup power. There was water in the lobbies from drains overflowing.

I heard from someone in Jamieson that their local transformer was destroyed and they were to stay home for the next two weeks.

Livingston's pumps were fine but parkades all had water damage and elevators don't work because Telus/telecoms room in basement was destroyed and it has something to do with the building security system.

I was assuming Fotze was being tongue in cheek but to be clear, there is no official word from Husky to the masses about making up lost time or any such nonsense. The is also no word on when we are to go back into the office but since the building never lost power I wouldn't be surprised if it is tomorrow. Yesterday we were told non critical projects were put on hold like I'm sure they were at every company and people who are not business critical were told to stay away and just check their email until told otherwise.

Like any company there will be people who need to take care of business and people who will put in time to make sure deadlines or obligations are met.

The only communication received so far today is the company is donating a million to flood relief.

My employer is located in Gulf Canada Square and had no water, no damage, and the power stayed on, etc. Non-essential employees were told to work from home on Friday and today, but apparently we are supposed to be back to business as usual tomorrow despite the city's recommendation to stay out of DT until Wednesday. It sounds like most departments are being pretty flexible and allowing people to work from home for a little longer if required, as lots of people were evacuated or have child care issues now due to school being cancelled for the rest of the week. I think most reasonable employers understand that certain concessions have to be made during times of crisis and will work with their employees according to their individual needs.

Apparently I was the only engineer to not go in today. Congrats to the rest of the ass kissers that did. Different priorities I suppose...helped out a flooded co-worker in Sunnyside instead.

Like dubc80 said there is so much to an employer than just a pay cheque. Guilting people in too work, when the mayor et al are saying STAY AWAY is pathetic.

My company is based Centennial so obviously we're all working from home

We were told to work if you can, but help people and family if you need to.

Sounds like we will be expected in to work tomorrow. To be honest, working from home has really hampered my productivity, without access to work related software and shared drives.

An interesting case study on just how reliant we are as a society on specialized electronics.

Sometimes people over value the importance of their job a little bit. Especially downtown corporate types. We got it easy for the most part compared to other occupations. .

Unless you have a hard deadline, it won't matter if you show up on Monday and do the work you were planning on doing, as opposed to maybe doing it over the rest of the week.

I've probably been more productive today working from home in my pajamas than any other normal Monday. hah!

They make it hard as hell to find but that's the latest map showing permitted re-entry which appears to coincide with all the reports I have read about the Enmax power situation.

Interestingly, Jamieson Place appears to be cut in half according to this map. I wonder if part of the building is on the Chinatown grid? That's the grid that is having issues.
