Stempniak for a first rounder?
Doesn't sound likely to me, but I've been wrong before. Hope I'm wrong is time too.

I can't imagine a team trading a 1st rounder for a 30 year old 40 point winger with 1 year left on his deal. I mean, he had a pretty good year, but the value really isn't there given his production over the last several seasons. The Flames got the 28 year old version for a broken down and overpaid Daymond Langkow.
And moving into the top 4 given the makeup of this draft probably would require an extra 1st rounder.

Horton has made enough money????
Historically it doesn't happen that way.
Basically anyone that has been in the league for a few years should just accept the minimum and play where they want.
Stempniak had "earned" 12.3 M before signing his contract last year........ he needed More???
Sarich 24.6 M.... ???
Scott Hannan has it right. He will will play where he wants for 1M/year...... he has earned 27.3M over his career.
Now Iginla could go and sign for 600k as he has already earned 76 M...
What the heck were these guys going on strike/lock out for????

If you're worried about the cap floor it's a perfect time for Feaster to bring in a bad contract where the other team has to sweeten the pot substantially to make the deal happen. A poor contract to make the cap floor + young players and/or picks is the way to go for this team right now, not a UFA like Horton.

Take Heatley + sweetener from a high Cap team Minny?

That group is pretty scary without Sarich. It also means that we are putting a young player in the pressbox instead of playing big minutes with the Heat.
|
It's just as scary WITH Sarich, IMHO.
Also, picking up a depth defensemen via UFA or trade wont be a problem, so I don't think we will see any young Dmen spending any significant time in the press box.

Sarich has an NMC until christmas. Might be easier to wait.
Waiting might also kill his trade value entirely.

Considering Horton has already won a cup and is currently in the finals to try to win another, going to a competitive team might not be his top priority. If he can get a $4M contract from the competitive team or a $7M contract from the Flames then that might change his priorities.
I agree with the idea of Feaster using his cap space to pick up a bad contract + picks/prospects (I would also like to see us get some picks/prospects from the Islanders for a compliance-buyout-trade).
However, there is a danger behind filling our cap space with a bad contract. Bringing in Horton to mentor the youth means the kids are learning from a winner. Bringing in Heatley from the Wild because of their cap situation means we have an expensive, potentially disasterous role-model for the young guys to learn from.

Then I question the intelligence of Wideman and his agent. It didn't take a mensa to see that this team was plummeting downward.

I think people are WAY over valuing draft picks compared to roster players.

Sorry, why are we forced to sit a young guy in the pressbox?
There isn't a rule that states you must have 7 D, 6 playing and one sitting. We can have 6 guys with the big club and the 7th guy, can be in the minors, called up when needed.

LW Curtis Glencross and #6 overall to Nashville for #4 overall, D Jonathan Blum and #64 overall?
If there's any other country town in the NHL, it's Nashville.

When a team is rebuilding to restock the prospect pool is more important than having players like Sarich or Tanguay IMO.

Yeah, wrong thread. You're already the news breaker SureLoss, you don't need to break the same info in multiple threads.

How brutal would it be to move back two spots, when all you're getting back is a year of Lee Stempniak.

That's why such a deal won't happen. It's not a deal that Nashville wants, but Calgary can get more from Stempniak trading him to another team that wants a one year/rental guy.

3.75 is just the CAP HIT. It's similar to what Cervenka got last year (but 2 years not 1).

Not sure why this is in this thread, but who really cares what his cap hit is? The Flames aren't going to be anywhere near the salary cap. If Knight gets all of those bonuses that make him paid all that money, he will have been well worth all that money.

Why owch? He only makes 900k in actual money (what he is worth) but adding all those bonuses allows us more room to move expensive veterans.
I know it's a weird feeling but the Flames are at far more risk of violating the cap floor than the cap ceiling.

Thought ELC bonuses don't count towards cap hit in the new CBA?
Means there is no chance Knight has a $3.75 cap hit.
