Oh I am in no way suggesting they be "kicked out". I just don't understand why they would not want to leave Canada voluntarily given their distain in how we waste their tax dollars.

I couldn't agree more. CBC radio has quality programming. I don't watch anything on CBC TV but hockey. Speaking of which, they should sell off the rights to HNIC. Their mandate, as I understand it, is to provide culturally-relevant programming that isn't being offered by other broadcasters. Since we have tons of sports networks who would love to show Leafs games on Saturday the CBC should let them.

Oh yes you are, you are demonstrating complete intolerance for a differing opinion. And you recommend someone move to a country where there too is probably little tolerance for differing opinions.
Perhaps you should move there so you can meet people who are intolerant. Apparently you have the bankroll to afford it as well. Maybe North Korea is something your more accustomed to?

So, Naga, can I offer you the same deal I have offered to FoL several times over? If you don't like paying taxes for things you don't agree with, i have the perfect place for you. I can promise you that you won't have to fund a single thing via taxes that you don't agree with: Somalia. I'll gladly pay your moving expenses there if you stay there for a year. For reasons I don't understand FoL has never taken me up on the offer despite it being his paradise, so I figured I would offer it to someone else.

Damn, those cushy unionized public sector desk "jobs" pay a lot better than I thought if you can afford to cover moving expenses for people who don't share your etatist world view.

I think that you are confusing the majority with the vocal minority. If you were to do a referendum across the country as to if CBC offered value for the money, I would bet that the majority would say no. Especially in the age where there are hundreds of channels, streaming everything, and unlimited options for entertainment time, I don't think that the CBC would be missed. I can't think of the last time that I actually watched a CBC non-HNIC program from start to finish, it may have been a documentary, but nothing that I couldn't live without and the last program I went out of my way to watch was the made for TV movie about Don Cherry.
Frankly, they produce family friendly second rate comedy that is guaranteed not to offend or entertain anyone... Has anyone actually watched the Republic of Doyle... I see the commercials and may have skipped past it quickly and it looks awful.
As for your Somalia thing, you sound frighteningly like one of the people you would rally against in the like it or get out crowd.

My point is simply that those that rail against paying taxes have absolutely no intention of moving to a country that has no taxes. They are free to continue to rant about "government waste" while protected by the benefits those taxes bring us. Or in Naga's case, railing against having to pay taxes for something that (see the article I just posted) most Canadians support.

So minorities who disagree with you should leave the country? You are losing it and your posts just look silly as a result.

Your vision of democracy is exciting. Perhaps we should order a Code Red, eh Col. Jessup?

*sigh* People often leave countries if they feel persecuted unfairly. They leave of their own free will. My suggestion is that those who argue for deep cuts, even against things that most in the country support, might be more comfortable in a country more in tune with their values. Thus far it has been suggested that I was recommending forced removal of people or violence against people... My only guess is that feigning outrage against what you want me to have said is easier than what was actually proposed.
Let's take this one step at a time.
1) The poll from the Globe and Mail says that most Canadians support the CBC funding.
2) Do you still feel that you should not have your tax money going to the CBC even if the majority of Canadians want tax money going to the CBC?

I'm not a big fan of government run entities telling taxpayers to eff off when they are asking for transparency and non bias news reporting.
On a whole the CBC is a disaster - HNIC being the exception - the entire channels reeks of Canadianna being rammed down my throat.

And you likely would fall in the 12% that say they want the CBC funding cut entirely. The poll did say that that opinion was strongest in Alberta. Much of the rest of the country is more supportive of the CBC.

The question as MMM put it was value for money. The poll discussed levels of funding. Two different questions / statements. One could attempt to correlate, but the data doesn't support that. You could suggest that by wanting to maintain or increase funding that people believe there is value for money. However, you could also argue that CBC appeals to the emotional / patriotic "Canadian" sense which doesn't need to be supported with value for money or ROI claims.

I'm impressed that you're able to agree with everything the Harper government is doing in Canada, so that you can rest comfortably in the country most in tune with your values.

I actually thought about moving to Europe. I love Canada, but I think the Scandinavian countries have values even more in line with my own. But immigrating and getting established was cost prohibitive.

What was the poll question? Was it:
Should the CBC funding be reduced and moved towards a more American style system of user funding, like PBS?
or
Should the CBC, particularly CBC radio, look for other avenues of funding, ie: advertising, thereby allowing for a reduction in gov't funding?

Yes, I feel that way. Do you have an issue with dissent? I would much rather CBC, used other funding sources, radio ads, funding drives, etc. I would rather the funds that went to the CBC were directed elsewhere, Military, Coast Guard, National Parks, a host of other options.

Actually, you offered to pay, and I doubt you can afford that (and I called you a keyboard warrior as a result). You suggested I move to Somalia because (?) I have the (according to you) minority opinion, which is strange because Somalia is the type of place that certainly does not accept different types of opinions. You certainly seem to fit in though, which is strange that you cannot see that.

1) It doesn't matter what the poll says, you were suggesting (offering to pay) people to move to Somalia because they were criticizing the government, not because of any poll. You had already dug yourself into a hole before any poll was suggested.
2) I can feel whatever I want about my tax money regardless of minority and majority opinions because this is a free country. Go read some history books about what happens when minority opinions are discounted or punished (I will save you the time...people will side with majority so that they are not persecuted). Canada is great because I can like or dislike, the minority is protected.
3)"devils advocate" seems to be the worst name ever for someone that insists on only using the so called majority opinion and expelling anyone who disagrees. Please change your name to Dictator or Hypocrate.
4) Keep posting, this is actually funny.
