The easy answer for me would be the Penguins, but nearly impossible to duplicate, with the way they ended up with Malkin and Crosby. Thoughts?

I think the only one of the four that is 'built a certain way' is Boston - they clearly have a style in mind and pursue players to fit that style (I would argue Detroit falls into that camp as well).
LA is a bit different in that they 'play' a very particular style due to the coach, but they didn't build the team with that in mind, they have a pretty well-rounded set of players.
Both Chicago and Pittsburgh are examples of teams, IMO, that play a style to suite their personnel (as opposed to Boston who acquires personnel to suite their style).
I believe that the Chi/Pit strategy is the way to go. I think you need all kids of players, and you want to be able to play all kinds of games, but you need to recognize your strengths and build around that.
I believe that you should build around your best players: acquire the best stars that you can, then supplement with secondary talent and role players that compliment your stars and round out your team.
I also believe you should build up the middle, with Cs and Gs. LA was built that way, and Boston is very strong down the middle. Obviously Pit was built the same way, until Fleury took a step (or two) backwards.
So: great goalie, deep at C, build around that, then implement a style that complements your talent.
