Makes sense. His competitiveness is not to be underestimated. Poker games with the guys at his house, if he loses there is another game. Until he wins.
Word is he has been known to be intimidating on the ice, if you believe his current head coach, from playing against him.
I think his personality would translate into a bad coach. He's got Craig Conroy syndrome....just too nice of a guy who wouldn't be able to say anything negative about anyone, even if it was justified or necessary. Plus, when you're a coach, you have to be able to teach and communicate... you can't just lead by example anymore.
I was thinking along these lines as well, however you have to take into account that he's totally different on the ice (and different in the dressing room & nightclubs/bars of Calgary) than he is in interviews with national media. I can imagine Iggy getting pretty nasty if he doesn't get his way. Combine that with a likeable media personality & he might actually make a decent coach.
Maybe I just have a case of the dumbs today, but I am having trouble with this post.
Iggy took a team that had no business playing 25 games in the playoffs and led them to the finals, and along the way he was the bat player in the world for 3 months.
Joe on the other had almost always had an all star cast to work with.
If you are placing joe much higher than iggy because of his jewellery then I think it is an unfair comparison.
I would say it was Iggy and Kipper that took them there. They were both the best players in the league for a 3 month period. Either one of them were not a Flame durring that run it doesn't happen. Was a magical time to be a Flames fan.
