No surprise, I could not vision any way where the Flames would have been interested to re-sign the player.

How are they comparable? One was a player entering his prime and not quite suited for a top 6 position in the NHL and the others is an 18 year old playing against men. They played in the same league? Better hope the Flames never take a Swede again because of Erixon then...
Other reasons to be iffy on Nichushkin, Cervenka isn't one of them.

*most, not all.
I remember one where he was cruising the blue line behind the opposing team, not terrible, but he basically got a long breakout pass and broke in behind. Maybe StL?
Then there was the long Sven pass, plus the one I found a link to, and pretty sure he had an empty netter. Close enough for me.
Most of his goals were right place, right time, and he certainly showed he had finish, but I don't think you could generalize and credit him with generating or driving the play. Didn't like his game, found him lazy.

just shows how much of a no risk move it was

I think most of the complaints were from people who saw the nearly $4 million cap hit without understanding that it was actually a $925,000 contract with a bunch of unlikely bonuses that any fan would have been happy to see him receive.

At least he was a just a 1 year FA signing, we lost nothing. Cervenka showed glimpses of something great but mostly he was just average. He provided no physical presence and when there was a line change he was usually gasping and getting off the ice 7-10 seconds before his line mates.
I'm completely fine with Cervenka heading back to the lighter paced KHL i was more worried the Flames would have overpaid and gave him a NTC to stay 3 more years.

Really surprised he didn't try to sign with another NHL team. Must have weighed his options and decided that the KHL route was better for his career and family life. Too bad it didn't work out, especially with the Flames.

This is good news. The Flames need to make room for younger players and get rid of the super soft guys. I was worried they do something stupid and sign him to a 2 year deal.

I would have liked to see him back for another year, would have been great to see him play a full season and get in a full training camp with the team but like others said, he was probably just home sick or English as a second language was jjust not his cup of tea...

He didn't sign with another team because he's not an NHL player.

That's an almost four million dollar cap hit gone for next season too. Hopefully Feaster uses this extra room wisely.

Aside from Damien Brunner, who had a nice year this year and looks like he'll be a good NHL player, who was the last undrafted European position player to come over a la Cervenka and actually become an impact player? I honestly can't think of one, certainly from the last 10 years, maybe even longer. Every year teams are scrambling to get these guys, and they almost never pan out.
Jiri Dopita, Fabien Brunnstrom, Mats Zuccarello, Roman Cervenka...

Well what you've never understood is that what you think isn't what is always truth.
Cervenka is a fringe NHL'er, he was on pace for about 20 goals (IIRC) over a full NHL season. I think he could have been given a full year to adjust. Doesn't matter, he's not coming back, and I'm fine with that.

Roman Cervenka = Nigel Dawes
A talented player that has very nice aspects to his game, but isn't good enough at his role to play it in the NHL, and doesn't fill any other role.

Somebody has to score goals on a crap team.
Cervenka was not a top 6 forward on any semblance of a decent NHL team and was no where near a bottom 6 forward. In essence, he was not an NHL player.
I can guarantee you no other NHL team was interested in his services. So... does that tell you he's a fringe NHLer?

Really disappointing.
Loved his skill, was never given a proper chance by Hartley.
