This guy is one of the biggest choke artists ever. I don't think it even deserves a discussion.

Anyone think that the Pens will go back to Fleury for Game 1 against the Sens? Or do you think it'll be Vokoun from here on out unless he screws up big time?

Vokoun. Until he has a bad game anyway.
Fleury had his chance and blew it.

So you have seen them play? Maybe you can give those of us who haven't a scouting report and talent comparison to other goaltenders.

Looks like the Penguins and Fleury have agreed that he should see a shrink.

The once-highly touted netminder was left off Canada’s five-goalie invite list to participate in its August Olympic orientation camp. The snub may have been the straw to break the camel’s back seeing as Fleury is now committed to seeing a sports psychologist, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Probably not a bad idea, his confidence has to have taken a huge hit in the last couple years. I'm actually not sure why more athletes don't use a sports psychologist -- seems like it would be a pretty big benefit to any of them, learning how to optimize their focus and motivation.

Definitely. Good on him for doing something about it. Not easy putting yourself out there and for people to negatively criticize you. I truly believe a lot of players could do better if they were to focus just as much time on their mental health as they do for their physical health.

Probably lots do but just don't tell anyone about it, kinda surprised that they would go to the media with this.

Fleury was one of those players that was great for his age when he came into the league, but his development didn't progress at the rate his age did.
He actually reminds me a lot of Tom Barasso. He came into the league on fire, but never really progressed much after that despite having team success.

I'd be curious if the price was low. Right now we have some interesting pieces in goal. Lets see how Berra and Ramo do first. Who knows, flip one of them and another piece for Fleury? Kinda fun knowing Feaster and the Flames have some assets to explore trading now.

I also heard from Brandon Sutter that Fleury's first child was born the day before he crapped the bed and was pulled for Vokoun. That would have a bearing on it, but his track record the year previous was not fantastic.

I agree. I think there's really no shame in any NHL player seeing a sports psychologist since it's a high pressure sport and even the guys with the best mental makeup probably still can improve and gain a bit of edge from it. However, it sure seems like the wrong thing to do putting it out there in the media for Fleury since such a huge part of the reason for him going to the psychologist is his confidence level taking a beating lately. Since it's Shero telling the media about it, it appears he's trying to justify his own decision to stick with Fleury.

His track record has been bad farther back than just the last two playoffs, even if we're being somewhat forgiving for his team's lack of defense. League average in playoffs has been .908 to .923 through these years.

I'd take him, but the pens would have to sweeten the deal. A lot.

At this point Fleury is a cap dump, an 11+ mil in salary cap dump. The Pens had better be including a 1st or equivalent prospect to get rid of that.

Wish the best of luck to him. While feels a little odd to be announced to the media, at this point we should be looking at it no differently than any other player working with a Gary Roberts to improve himself.

If the price was right, and by that I mean no top end youth or low round picks then I would gladly take a chance on him. He is far better then any goalie option we currently have.
