When Iggy first got traded I was pretty sad about it for 3 days. I'll admit, my entire mood was affected. I was always thinking about "What if this happened? What if that happened? What if the Flames won in 2004? What if Sutter didn't step down as coach?"
I bought a Pens Iggy jersey the morning after the trade was announced. Just like KootenayFlamesFan said, I watched the entire first game he played as a Penguin and was so excited when he was on the ice.
Now, I haven't thought much about him. I feel like he's forgotten about Calgary and the Flames the same way the fans have sort of forgotten about him. I don't want the Flames to re-sign him next year, but it was all I wanted right when he got traded. I'll be cheering for him during the playoffs this year but my mood won't be affected if he loses.

I don't know what the big deal is. I'd be ecstatic if I was in his shoes. The guy spent like 75% of his professional career playing for an organization that has achieved absolutely sweet f***-all for the last twenty-four seasons. '04 was just a fluke year that was nowhere near indicative of the actual quality of our team. In fact, I'd argue that the '04 run was far more detrimental to this organization. We were still building something at that point, but then all of a sudden we're one goal away from winning the Cup, and then next thing you know, the whole organization is in "win now" mode. Season after season of signing has-been players and hiring never-was coaches... all the while, the only guy on this team with legitimate all-star talent is left answering the same stupid questions night after night. "Yeah, I like our chances this year. This a good team we have, and I think this new coach is going to be great." "We didn't play very well tonight, we're just going to have to play better tomorrow." "Well, I guess you could say that the reason we lost today's game, is because we allowed more goals than the other team did." "Oh, I wasn't expecting that... I guess you're right, even though we scored four power play goals tonight, you're right about us not scoring on that one power play in the second period. I guess we'll just have to work harder on that." "Well, Eric, we won the game 6-0, but I guess you do have a point that we seem to be allowing more shots against than other teams do..."
Whatever. He's on a winning team and playing for an ACTUAL winning organization that isn't just committed to winning, but is ACTUALLY winning. You know? Like, as in ACTUALLY doing what they said they were going to do. Yeah, they got some lucky draft picks, but they didn't waste those picks on crap, and they didn't fail to build a winning team around those picks. They also didn't fail to bring in the right management and coaches along the way (even Therrien). We had Jarome freakin Iginla for EIGHTEEN years, and not once did we bother to do anything about it. We may have tried to do something about it, but the best thing about sports is how easy it is to see the difference between TRYING to do something and DOING something.
Iggy should be happy. I know I'd be happy, and any one of us would be jumping for joy if we were in his skates right now, too.

My understanding is it goes:
1. Lottery winner
2-14: Other non-playoff teams in reverse order of finish
15-x: Non-division winners eliminated in first two rounds in reverse order of finish
x-26: Division winners eliminated in first two rounds in reverse order of finish
27: Conference final loser with fewer points
28: Conference final loser with most points
29: Stanley Cup final losers
30: Champions
It's possible the division winners don't keep their seeding above the other teams for the draft, but I think in one of the threads somebody provided an example from last year that showed this.

Yes, just looked it up and you are right. Last year Florida was 14th overall in the standings but picked 23rd(instead of 17th) because they were the SE division winner. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm coming to the feeling that a big problem with the Calgary Flames was Jarome Iginla. And maybe not actively, and it may not have been his fault, but its there none the less.
Things didnt change around here because people were too passive about upsetting Iggy, or systems didnt change because Iggy didnt want to adapt, players came in and went out because Iggy wanted it.
Iggy became bigger than the Calgary Flames and everyone suffered because of it.
Again, this may not have been his fault, I sincerely doubt most of it was, but it still happened.

I wondering the same thing, he meant well with his influence here but it was good for him to go to another team and be a smaller player in a bigger picture so that he could see things differently.
I didn't forget about Iggy after a couple of weeks like some here, I am happy for him and I don't take any of his comments personally, "never will".
The guy has given a lot as a player to the Flames and as a fan I appreciate who he is and what he has done! I hope he wins the Cup and brings it back to Calgary!

“It was a catch. I didn’t know what to hope for, right?” Iginla admitted Monday in a phone interview with the Calgary Sun. “I know they’re rebuilding, and once they’re out of the playoffs, I’d like to see them get as high a pick as possible. But then, for the guys going through it, our job is to try to win games, and it’s so much fun when you’re winning ...
“So it was a catch, and I’m sure a lot of fans felt that way, too.”

The guy still wishes the Flames well. He is just excited to be on a true stanley cup contender, no need to vilify the greatest Flame of all time.

I admit it. I picked him in my playoff pool.
I hope it works out for both of us.
