Nervous about the whole moving up thing. Depends on what the trades would be.

If it was say

STL pick + Stempniak for #12 or something like that, then sure but if we lose top end picks in this draft, I will be pissed. We need to draft smartly, but also we need to have enough picks to make it possible that we can get several players back from this draft to help moving forward.

Watched the whole thing, and the impression l get is that Feaster and co. know just how important it is to pick right in this draft. Drafter size and center is a priority, as all of us would agree with. He wants to have a winning culture around the team, which I agree 100% with. He said all the right things about how he wanted the team to win down the stretch, but absolutely wants to get that 1st overall pick.

It's funny how most other NHL fans are latched onto the playoffs and possible matchups, while I am more excited about the draft, then I am about crowning a cup champ.

I think Feaster wants to get into the top 4.
Florida Panthers 25.0%
Colorado Avalanche 18.8%
Tampa Bay Lightning 14.2%
Nashville Predators 10.7%
Carolina Hurricanes 8.1%
Calgary Flames 6.2%

So which team would trading down? To me I see Nashville and Tampa Bay. Lets offer Glencross + CGY 1st round and finally get our franchise #1C.

Carolina is the obvious target to likely secure their guy if they don't share the consensus. If Tampa or Nashville wins, Colorado might be a target.

Carolina and T-Bay maybe. Nashville needs a big time forward just as bad as the Flames do.

I don't think its horrible to trade picks for players. Obviously it depends on the player, but picks don't always work out. If you can get a decent player.. why not.

I don't wana give up picks to move up, draft and increase our chances unless a guy is dropping and he was high on our list then look to move up. Vice versa if you can move down and still get your guy with the Stl/Pit pick then move down and add an asset.

Yeah, if Nashville stays in the 4th spot, there's no way they move down. Barkov is perfect for them.

Regarding Tanguay being subject to a compliance buyout, just to make sure I understand it:

1. $10.5M still owing ($3.5M x 3 years);
2. The compliance buyout would be a 2/3rds buyout of the remaining amount owing ($7M);
3. Paid out (a) at once or (b) paid out over twice the number of years left on the contract (6) without counting against the cap.

I think Tampa is the best bet to trade down. It's said that they believe this was just a poor season and not indicative of where the franchise is. One could argue that with them actually only being -3 this year on goal differential that they are right. That tells me they lost a ton of 1 goal games and win a few lopsided ones. With having Hedman & Stamkos already, it might be in their best interest to add something to help their team more now.

Cuz we need elite players, not decent ones. The more picks we have, the better.

he also has to be medically cleared before being bought out, which I don't think he will be.

I see Sarich as a buyout just because the fit is no longer there.

So who would trade all three first round picks for a Top 3 pick? Any takers?

Reading two months of wishful thinking that some team is going to pass on a top 4 franchise player and let the Flames trade up so they can get them is going to get really old. Elite prospects help teams now just as much as anything the Flames could muster up to trade a team.
