That is a hell of a lot easier to do with young guys with no kids or old failing bodies

Yup, let's see in 10 years when the Oilers are still missing the playoffs if Hall, Eberle or Schultz are playing for Team Canada in the Worlds.

 Dubnyk, Smith

Brodie, Campbell, Dillon, Robidas, L. Schenn, J. Schultz

Duchene, Eberle, Giroux, Hall, Ladd, O'Reilly, Read, Simmons, Skinner, E. Staal, J. Staal, Stamkos

Apropos of nothing, but I think Robidas is a good comparable for Mark Cundari's possible upside.

Switzerland finalized their roster today, the goaltenders are Reto Berra, Martin Gerber and Tobias Stephan. Word out of Switzerland is that Berra will be the clear number one for the Swiss team and that he is counted on as a cornerstone to help Switzerland reach the quarter final.
On Friday, he stopped 25 shots and backstopped Switzerland to a 2-1 OT win over Germany in a test match.

In 2009 you had guys like Chris Phillips, Shane Doan, Horcoff, Roloson, St.Louis, Staois went in 08 I believe. Brendan Shanahan went in 05-06 after being eliminated from the playoffs.

For some reason the Flames have just ignored the Worlds which is too bad. Maybe that stemmed from Iginla? Who knows.

Brodie excited to be going to the World Championships

	Quote:

		| T.J. Brodie grew up cheering for the Detroit Red Wings as a little boy just over the border from the Motor City in Chatham, Ont.
So imagine his delight Saturday when Steve Yzerman, of all people, called with an invitation to represent Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Stockholm-Helsinki.

“It’s sort of weird watching him growing up and being so close to Detroit and stuff,” the 21-year-old defenceman said Sunday morning after packing up his belongings on the last day of work this season for the Calgary Flames. “To talk to him on the phone is sort of a weird feeling, I guess.

“Watching your idol and getting to talk to him – it’s a cool experience.”

Yeah, so?

It's a third rate tournament at best. I don't know why the heck I should care about it, so I don't expect the players to care about it either.

If a player wants to go play, that's awesome... but I don't see it being a big deal at all.

Iginla never had a reason to go and the names mentioned aren't close to his class and for the most part guys that were asked had a legit reason not to go.

As a known hater of the the flames you have to admit there wasn't a long list of non injured Flames that said no.

So my buddy happens to have a spare plane ticket to go to Stockholm while the tournament's on and asked me to go with him. Unfortunately it falls over my fiancee's birthday and I would be dead if I went, especially a couple months before the wedding. My friend's a Kiwi and doesn't really know much about hockey but I told him to get some tickets--he's now going to see Canada v. Belarus. I could be there with him.
