I find the attack ad gives Trudeau credibility. After all he is the leader of a party with only 35 seats out of 308. To give him all this attention shows the CPC fears him, when I'd say they should just ignore him.

I don't get why you guys are getting all butt-hurt over this. Girls are genetically, physically and intellectually inferior to men. That is why calling him 'Justine', using feminine fonts, and accentuating his long lashes and flowing hair is both hilarious, and effective in tarnishing his public image. Girls clearly have no right to govern, or be in the house of commons for that matter. The only house they should be in is... well, I don't wanna incite the femmin-nazis on this board, so I will let you finish that sentence.

Amirite, transplant99? I am totally with you.

The attack ads are playing non-stop on Sportsnet East right now. Is there an election coming up right away or something? What's the purpose?

They really are coming off as petty and bullyish. They are so over the top and out of context, it's funny and doesn't do the CPC any favours.

I think you guys are overestimating the voting public. You may see it as petty, but I think if you repeat a lie often enough, people will come to believe it.

Pretty classic troll job in this thread... complete with calling someone a girl and making fun of his mom. Unfortunately the poster is old as sh%# and not in grade 5 or that would have totally not been really sad at all.

BC is brutal right now, we're getting phone spammed and tv spammed with provincial election idiots and getting federal sleaseball attack ads and I'm better than you rebuttals soon apparently. Good times all around on tv... time to watch a season of something on netflix next week.

Says the guy who launched this diatribe at a left leaning poster.

Why not let blind partisanship get in the way however, it's way more fun to quote long dead polymath in regards to something that applies little to what is actually occurring.

They are appealing to their base. People like Transplant. Not exactly your typical Canadian.

What is it exactly about the University of Calgary that would make it a 2nd rate school?

Perhaps the fact that it is second in Alberta. A first rate school would be UofT... and employers would definitely see more value in a U of T degree compared with one from U of C. (not to mention the perceived right wing bias from U of C professors)

Not sure how the right wing bias has any bearing on the quality of school.

Unless you are claiming that schools with left wing bias are also equally problematic.

I am just saying that it may play into an employer's hiring decision. A student taught by professors who are biased in either way would be less desirable than a student taught to be objective.

Not only that, but the strongest negative reactions in this thread are from hard left posters. Got news for them: these ads aren't targeted at them.

That being said, I do agree with Cowperson's commentary re: the Ignatieff ads vs. these. The problem with targeting perceived in experience is that it only takes time to overcome that. The Ignatieff ads targeted motive, and that is far more effective. The latter was brilliantly effective, the former, much more difficult to pull off.

I actually agree with the lack of experience and him living off his family name (the latter bothers me the most whether it's a Kennedy, Bush or Trudeau), but taking a comment from 14 years ago and editing to erase context is really just bottom of the barrel stuff.

When I first saw the ads, I honestly had to do a double take because I thought I was watching a Rick Mercer or Stephen Colbert type of comedy sketch. I thought there was no way they were being serious. The fairy dust and cursive fonts, it's just way too much and uncalled for right off the bat like this. It harkens back to the day when they edited together clips of Chretien's speech impediment to make it sound he was mentally handicapped.

The one ad where they try to ridicule Trudeau for participating in charity events and having interests outside of politics (like the arts and working with kids) are the funniest though. Like those are negatives. It wasn't that long when the Conservatives were releasing photos of Stockwell Day jetskiing with young people to try and make him look more hip, or who could forget the photo releases of Harper with all the kittens and going to the animal shelter? I mean, how could you not vote for him, you don't hate kittens, do you? (Also, I love the strategically placed guitar in the one photo).

NSFW!

I'm not really commenting on Harper's or Trudeau's abilities. I think there are positives and negatives with both, but the Conservative ad and PR campaigns are always just the worst. How anyone can't see it for what it is, I just don't understand.

I'd rather have someone with a lack of experience but makes up for it with drive. What I can't stand is the lying, scheming divisive experience we're being subjected to right now.
