Some people are just trying to make a mountain from a mole hill with this. What he said really was no worse than what a lot of other hockey interviews have yielded over the years and this is only a "story" because it was with a woman. Had he been as "rude" to a male reporter everyone would likely have had a laugh and forgot about it 10 seconds later.
I still think he should have just stared at her with a raised eyebrow, looking at her like she had literally just said the most ignorant, idiotic thing ever uttered in a hockey interview and not said a single word. Would have made for a great youtube clip.

Semantics really, based on his comments his intent was to belittle the interviewer for what he perceived as a dumb question. He used a 'girl crack' to help himself demean the interviewer, not the 'woman'. Sensationalism in the media is alway so quick to pull the race/ gender/ ethnic/ religious/ sexual orientation card, when in reality it's just someone being an insensitive ######. The irony is its a bunch of middle aged white guys doing the bitching (I am sure that is some type of offensive statement to that particular group too).
The outcome would have been the same regardless of gender. Still, not an excuse for his unprofessional actions.

Thank-you Officer Grammar. I realize that responding on an iPhone is no excuse sir.
Who needs to read it, when it has been the main topic of discussion on the TEAM all day? I have heard the interview many times. I have listened to the chivalrous radio hosts dissect it blow be blow.
I feel like I was actually there.

His comment was definitely sexist because he mentioned her sex. If he was like "your question is stupid and I think you are stupid and the worst reporter ever" it isn't sexist. But because he the reference to her being the first female ref specifically, it is most certainly sexist.

Lol sexist? he has a point. There are no women NHL refs for a reason, they're simply not good enough.

He shouldn't have brought gender in to it. That was his only mistake, he could have responded and made the same point about her not understanding the game with out it becoming a gender thing.
Otherwise no issue with his response. Aggravating report dancing around her question. If she wants him to comment on the slash, ask a direct question, don't beat around the bush.

Really? What's the empirical evidence to support your claim?

That there has never in the 100 plus year history been a women referee? Or are you suggesting the NHL is sexist by not hiring capable women referees?

How would a female ref call a game differently than a male ref?

I don't really have much of an opinion on the matter one way or another but he provided a response to which you have not answered, you simply repeated the question while ignoring his response. If you really wish to further this conversation (bad idea) you might want to you know, respond to the answer he put forth.

Setting up the play?.......setting up the play?......setting up the play?........setting up the play?
I really have nothing else to add, but this made me think of one of the strangest, most hilarious and tragically ignored line of interview questions in the history of games played on frozen things.
