I don't know why Backlund is sitting. He's young.

And he's good, that's a dangerous combination tonight.

Brian McGratton is the forward with the 2nd most career points that is playing in tonight's game.

It's not like what Nashville is icing is all that much better:

Butler-Legwand-Forsberg
Kostitsyn-Spaling-Bang
Clune-Smith-Halischuk
Henderson-Mueller-Watson

Kind of sucks that Kipper gets put behind this lineup but its not like the guys on the other side of the ice have a potent attack or any sort of motivation.

Edit: LOL I should have known. It was a silly skit where the Flames bring Warrener back.

That was actually pretty funny. Steinberg in particular takes it on the chin.

The Flames lineup looks like a pre-season game.

I hope Babchuk gets all the ice time he can handle tonight.

There is no correlation with the Oilers and their futility. They are the extreme and not the norm. There is a reason even well run franchises like the Devils, Hurricanes, and Predators are tanking. It's akin to folding a bad hand in a game of poker. Playing a bad hand to the end results in losing.

Looks like the Flames lineup is in direct response to the Predators sad sack lineup. Am I the only person that kind of finds this truly bizarre that teams are trying to out suck each other like this? NHL needs to seriously look at this as while I'm firmly on the lose to win at the draft camp the fact that so many teams are tanking down the stretch is a little disturbing.

What a joke. Never a fan of not icing the best possible roster.

The draft lottery is still a joke. There has to be a different way. Maybe the last 5 seasons get taken into account, instead of your last season?

Ugh Oilers first overall picks for years to come if that's the case

I've given it a lot of thought over the past couple weeks on how they could do the draft differently as to eliminate tanking, I can't come up with anything realistic other than just randomizing positions for all teams that miss the playoffs.

Anyone who says we're not tanking is out to lunch, you don't sit Stempniak, Cammalleri, Backlund, and Stajan to just "give the young guys a shot" especially when one of the guys sitting is arguably our best young guy this season.

Sure just hand the Oilers another 1st overall why dontcha.

Just use the PingPong balls to determine every draft slot for non playoff teams. If you don't even have pick range certainty then there is little incentive to tank. Keep it a progressive lotto (so the worst teams have more pingpong balls in the hopper) but remove the range certainty. That would do it I think.

Flames should just keep trying to set up Kostitsyn.

Can't believe Kipper is in this game.

Excellent idea.

Every non-playoff team should have the same chance at the first overall pick.
