#34 to the rafters.
Forever a Flame is dumb, retire it or don't. We don't want Leafs style "honoring"

Wrong.
Kent Nilsson wore #14 first.

I'm on the fence, but I lean towards no as well. I say this being a huge Kipper fan - amazing goalie and great dude. Easily the best goalie the Flames have ever had. One of the better goalies of his generation, no doubt.
He is a much better goalie than Vernon, but Vernon won us a cup and that's why his number hangs from the rafters. If Kipper (officially) won in '04, he'd be up there too - no question. Might have a Con Smythe to go along with the cup too, but I don't like to think about that...

Vernon shouldn't have been retired. Lots of better players on the cup team.
For me, limit it to iconic players whose lasting identity was as a Flame. Pretty simple in my mind:
9, 12, 14, 34

Those saying Kipper shouldn't hang because Vernon won a cup, Kipper did break Vernon records with the team. Yes Kipper didn't bring a bring a cup to Calgary, but he established the platinum standard for goaltending for the franchise. If anyone is going to break Kipper's records with the club, they're going to have to be a special goaltender to do it. I think what he pulled off with the club, along with his importance to team performance, is what justifies him having his number retired.

IMO in a 30 team league, getting to the SCF is almost as hard as winning the cup was in a 21 team league. "Did he win a cup" is a standard better suited to 25 years ago than it is for 2013

Toni Lydman wore #14 in training camp the year after Fleury was traded.

I kind of find it a little unbelievable some people would say not to retire the jersey as it's a no-brainer for me. Was Calgary's goalie, star goalie that is, for 10 years and gave them a chance in so many games. Outside of 2004 this franchise was carried not by Iginla but night in and night out by Kiprusoff. There was never any player with a more consistent game to game effort, and the only thing one could criticize Kiprusoff for would be for his relatively quiet approach to interviews, spotlights, media sensationalism and community involvement (although these are all related, who really knows how much he contributed to the community).
Kipper's backstopping put the Flames in playoff contention over the last few years when they had no business being there and were no better than the Oilers but had the elite level goaltending to separate them from the pack. I doubt we see a goalie as consistent year-to-year over such a long stretch for 2 or 3 decades, and I fail to see how Vernon was ever a better goalie or more deserving.
If you don't retire Kiprusoff's 34, what the hell does it take? He's the best damn goalie in franchise history, and that's not enough? Give me a break, Iginla and Kipper's jerseys will be retired.
