If there's any justice in the world, the Flames will steal the Oilers' place in the standings and win the lottery.

To be honest, I am happy when the young guys score and have a very good game. However, I would rather the other team lose a nail-biter for two reasons.

1) Honestly, when the pressure is on next season and teams start taking the Flames less lightly, we are going to lose a lot more games. This is definitely (historically) not a foreshadow of things to come next season.

2) Of course there are some great players in the system, however, we are still missing some top 6 players. I just feel if we landed a guy like Mackinnon or Drouin, we would be already half way through the rebuild. As of now, I still feel if we get a guy like Lindholm, we can still do really well, however, in the long run there really isn't an advantage to winning right now.

I am not less of a fan of you or anyone else, I just want this shorter season to be a little more painful and then I'll be back to bleeding red next season. For those saying the Oilers didn't do well, it's because they have top line talent but no depth. I think the Flames have depth but are missing top line talent and yes it does make a difference if we select Mackinnon over Monahen.

The Oilers remind me of Florida. Pathetic.

Trust me, nobody is getting fooled here. Also nobody here is in the Flames management group either so who cares about next year. I'm living in the moment watching the young players play and enjoying the crap out of it.

Next year is next year and yes chances are next year will be rough, but because I don't know who's even going to be playing here I don't care until September.

Reinhart was good. Baertschi was good. Cundari was good. Street and Byron had some good shifts. Didn't really notice Hanowski.

Toronto and Edmonton have been pulling this same thing for years now. Play well when the heat is off just to go back to being a train wreck the season after. Enjoy the wins, but don't read too much into them.

Cundari looks like a keeper, and Backlund, Brodie, and Baertschi are playing like studs which is nice to see. Would have been great to add a franchise center to that group through the draft, but that ship sailed a while ago.

Good on them for not throwing in the towel like a bunch of other garbage organizations I could name right now, but people saying we've got a shot next year are fooling themselves, unfortunately. The Flames will still be boasting the worst group of centers in the league next season, and they won't be winning anything until that changes.

Reading the Wild GT on HF makes me feel a lot better. I actually like playing the spoiler role rather than us getting spoiled.

Thats what $196M gets you. A loss to an AHL team.

That's pretty much the opposite of how I would do things. I want to maintain cap flexibility, maximize development, and draft high until the young core gets too good for that (or nears the end of their ELCs)... then you change gears, add some UFAs and take a run at the cup.

Cundari was better than I expected points aside. He's got the build where him only being 5'10" doesn't matter as much.

Anyway, I'll now leave the floor to those who ruin every thread with their whining about how we won't get Jones or MacKinnon.
The team was bad with the veterans and now with most of them gone or injured, the young guns shine. If we still have the so called 1st liners in the team we will finish LAST because we would still be searching for a 1st line Centre to turn the team around

Can win games when we need to, can't lose games no matter how badly we stack the odds against ourselves.

Bizzaro team.

And the 'are you not entertained?' post still has me laughing.

Edmonton has finished 30th, 30th and 29th the past three season. There has been no "playing well" with them.

I liked Jbo and thought he got a raw deal sometimes with the fans. The media pretty much all agreed that we got robbed on his trade, in a few years we may look back at it as a real win depending on how that draft pick turns out.

When people keep hoping for MacKinnon and Drouin and I can't help thinking of Alexadre Daigle. Superstar junior stats that didn't translate to the next level, so you never know who is going to be great (Jarome Iginla picked 11th). Just because they are hyped doesn't mean anything.
