Kevin Lowe keeps his job..........unreal.

Great news for us, horrible news for Oiler fans. Nothing is changing at all in the grand scheme of things.

Not that it changes your point, but it was in 2006. The lockout was in 2005.

Somewhere, Doug MacLean and Mike Milbury must be wondering why they didn't get a phone call.

Well that pretty much guarantees the Oilers will never achieve success before their core is ready to flee via free agency.

What a waste of first overall picks!

They're building something special up in Edmonton.....

Hiring retreads so that the losing tradition can continue.

Except at the time, the Flames were coming off a NW division title and an over 100 point season. You get promoted for success, unlike the Oilers organization..

When Lowe fired MacTavish, it should have been Lowe who was fired. I don't know if MacTavish will have complete power to run the team, probably not so it should be the same ##### different pile.

If I cared at all I would probably feel bad for Tambellini. He's taking the fall for long-standing mismanagement. He was set up to fail. Heck, he may have been brought in just to fire!

Why are people thinking Tambo was brought in just to be fired? He had a pretty good pedigree in management before joining the Oilers. So he had terrible results as the G.M. and didn't fulfill his potential. It ends up with his dismissal. Seems pretty simple, so why invent a conspiracy theory?

Wrong, he was only coach then. He wasn't given G.M. duties until a year and a half into his tenure as coach.

I'll use this again...just made my Monday that much better.

Can change the puppet, not the result. All sorts of good stuff here...Howson who was a wreck in CLB, MacTavish who had nothing to work with player wise from Lowe the GM, didn't get his option year picked up by the Oilers before their playoff run and then had to pay through th nose for him.

And now Tambelleni, who had nothing to work with, this time from President Lowe who had buired that team's repuatuion from when he was the GM, gets the punt.

Musical chairs, with circus music as the backdrop.

Wasn't he both coach and GM, then stepped down as coach because he didn't want to do both jobs long-term?

I said it the summer of 2006 and I will say it again. That team got to the finals in spite of MacTavish not because of him. That season showed the true brilliance of Chris Pronger willing that team to the cup with the help of a hot goaltender. MacTavish tried his best to mess things up sabotaging the goaltending situation all season but Pronger was just too good of a leader to let him get in the way.
