Nobody knows how to tank it like the Oilers.
4-3 Flames
Agreed, no team is able to swallow their pride and lose draft pick improving games like the Edmonton Oilers. I fully expect the Flames to pass the Oilers in the standings by the end of the season.
If the magical day ever comes that this team reaches that promise land we keep hearing about it will be absolutely meaningless in my humble opinion.
It's weird to see such a clash of opinions on whether winning or losing is best for the club at this point. I personally am hoping we come out with zero points (and much preferred we saved our win last night for tonight instead), because we really can't afford to drop out of the top/bottom 4 and the quality of picks they possess, but I would never begrudge someone who chooses to cheer the team on tonight and hopes for a victory. Because they're being a better fan than me, especially at such a low point..and that is actually pretty admirable. We're all on the same side here, I just don't think anyone has the grounds to rip on someone who cares enough about pride at this point to actually want to see them beat their provincial rivals, especially after that 8-2 embarrassment.
If it's 'wrong' to be of that mindset, then why don't you go tell the players that, too. Because I'm sure that they're all going in with the train of thought that, above all, securing a loss to get one step closer to some kid coming out of the QMJHL is most important.
I think we can do the few honest fans a favor and hope for losses quietly, because it is quite honestly the most pathetic thing to be trumpeting about. Can we at least remotely separate ourselves from the losers up north?

Other than fan pride, there is no reason to cheer for another flames' win this year. All year I have never cheered for a flames loss to the nucks/oilers, but now that the oilers are basically out of the playoff picture, sure hope they take the 2 points tonight.
So the Flames lineup should look something like this tonight.

This is what scorched earth looks like. Thats unquestionably the worst Flames roster Ive ever seen. There's only about 9 guys or so on that roster who currently deserve NHL roster spots based on their present level of play. And only one of those guys is a 1st line/pairing guy.
I'm happy to see a lot of new/young guys on the roster, but this team can't shelter them in any way, which isn't the best way to introduce guys to the big show. But the Flames just don't have the horses to do anything else right now, I suppose.
Never in a million years would I ever have expected to say this, but... I think Matt Stajan might be the most irreplaceable player on the team right now.
Anyways, Go Flames Go! I'll be up till 5am watching this game!

It looks bad, but i have no doubt that those "tweeners" will play and work harder than the flames team that was put on the ice for the first 2 months.

The Oilers are proof that tanking for first overall picks doesn't work unless you have competent management.
If they were smart they would have traded Yakupov for a big time defender. I like Dubynk and think he's pretty good, but they need defensemen very bad and a couple more defensive forwards.
It's not about tanking for picks, it's about building your team the right way and the Oilers definitely haven't done that.
Even if the Flames get Barkov or Lindholm this year ( still great prospects) they will most likely get another top 5 pick the year after anyway. Not like we will turn this around in one season. Destroy the Oilers please.
Cheering for losses is pathetic. Just absolutely pathetic. This is a game I hope to hell we win, I hope our young guys that are coming up are going to experience a winning environment, because that has to be the mentality if they're to succeed.

Well, I'm prepared to not win another game this year.
