One of the most in depth profiles yet in The Next Ones series:
Nathan (Nate) MacKinnon
Our Western Conference "Dub" profiler Andy Eide alse has complete his profile on Popeye's son:
Seth Jones
Not sure if the Flames will have a shot at moving up (and taking MacKinnon, who I'd prefer), but read both and let us know who you'd take 1st - The Seth-Nate Debate.

No contest for me - MacKinnon. I liked MacKinnon before the Memorial Cup so it sure wasn't going to change after.
Three primary reasons:
1) explosive skating and acceleration
2) leadership and determination - very Crosby-esque
3) C. All else equal, I'll take the centerman
I'll add a 4) he is compared (accurately and fairly, IMO) to Rocket Richard

Keeping the subscription up, basically for this issue, Future Watch and their IIHF coverage. Otherwise, the publication isn't essential reading as it was when Bob McKenzie was editor.

For other Flames 6th overall possibilities check out these prospects profiled in the unique The Next Ones format:
Elias Lindholm
Should he by chance slide a couple slots:
Aleksander Barkov
The Russian Rick Nash Wannabe (I'd personally rather not pick him 6th from Flames perspective)
Valerie Nichushkin
My sleeper pick for the Flames (maybe even trade down 2 or 3 slots):
Hunter Shinkaruk
*We now have nearly 90 prospects profiled - find them in the THW Prospect Index:

No to Shinkaruk! All offense and much better complete players ahead of him - see Horvat, Bo or Domi, Max

I believe in the Pony Power

Domi is amongst the most incomplete players in the first

While I wouldn't take him necessarily at 6th, Skinkaruk brings more to the table than just pure offense - he provides a relentless effort game in, game out with a determination to continually improve. He's just the kind of kid the Flames should be bringing into the fold (depending if they could get good value for moving down slightly and still be able to select him).
Domi needs work (probably better effort more appropriate) away from the puck in his own zone.

After some minor delays The Next Ones final edition of the rankings have been released.
The Intro:
Drouin Edges Out MacKinnon And Jones In Race For Number One
(Read article before calling me crazy! In the Flames situation, I would probably take the no-brainer Nate MacKinnon and both he and Jones are the more NHL ready. Drouin's stratospheric hockey sense gave him the ever so slight edge in the end.)
The Top 210 complete with demographics, stats, NHL-CS ranking (both segregated and the rankings combined, with the later giving you a better of idea of the prospects value on draft day according to Central Scouting) and player twitter accounts where available:
2013 NHL Draft Rankings: The Next Ones Final Top 210
Constructive criticism welcomed. Fire away!

Appreciate all the comments, folks.
I normally try and address each and every comment, but unfortunately my community was one of those first affected (Discovery) with the flooding...
Luckily, after 3 days no power and totally disconnected (internet, phones, TV, etc.) we're (upper part of my neighbourhood) semi back to normal. My house escaped unscathed but many neighbours were not so lucky.
This couldn't have come at a worst time for hockey coverage, given my passion for the draft, but what can ya do.
Like the Guess Who once said: "Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over..."
We just have to be resilient and come back better and stronger than ever.
Hope all other CPers are keeping safe and as dry as possible.

Hopefully the flames can snag a 2nd round pick by trading stempniak, tanguay, cap space, etc etc etc.

In this draft, that would be very desirable indeed.

Here's
Marko Dano - F ("Book 'Em Danno!")
- would love for the Flames to somehow snag him, but they'd probably need a mid to late 2nd rnder to do so - but who knows. Chatted with him through a translator when he was in YYC for the 2012 WJCs.

Just being able to say that would make it worth it
