hopefully it makes the rest of the guys in the dressing room worried for their jobs and if they want to keep them they better start with a win tonight.

Why is anyone concerned about hurting the feelings of anyone on a 14th place team? The standings should hurt their feelings way more than the GM vocalizing the blatantly obvious.

Despite the No Movement Clause of Curtis Glencross there were still reportedly more teams interested in acquiring him than any other Flame, rumored teams that wanted him the past few days include the Wild, Bruins, Senators, Hurricanes, Devils and Redwings.

Every team in the league should want a guy with his contract, age and production. Not upset we didn't move him.

Don't care how they feel, most of them should shipped out during offseason anyway.
Thanks for bringing us a lottery pick, now off you go!

If you feel that is a third liner, then the problem isn't Glencross, but your own faulty opinion of what a third or second line player is.
Or to put it another way: If your viewpoint was realistic enough to be commonly held by actual general managers, then the Flames would be absolutely stupid to move him, since they could never hope to get back in a trade the value they get out of him as a player under those contract terms.
|
another way to look at this is that he's on pace for roughly the same point total that he's achieved over the last 4 years (45-50 pts) with the flames (seems like a lot of more physical players are benefitting from the long summer and 1/2 season to me). those 4 years he has had some good players to play with, but next year, the roster is a toss up. Will he be able to carry his line? Will he be able to carry the team? this year represents a career high goal pace for him as well, will he be able to maintain that with a weaker support cast? I think if the answer to any of these questions is debatable then he should not be considered untouchable.
I mean he's a decent player, and he's cheap, and that makes him attractive - but if a gm calls and offers you a clowe type deal, I think you take it and pick up a similar player via free agency. especially now that it is in the team's best interest to tank the rest of the season.

IMHO Glencross is most effective when he is producing on the 2nd line, not as the guy. He's a good complementary piece.
|
Sure he was If 41 points in 55 games was 2nd or 3rd a lot of guys turned it up late.
And who said GlenX had to be a first line player? He untouchable because he brings a total game, PP,PK plays tough and has a great contract.

I really wanted Glencross moved because his value is high and this team is not making the playoffs over the duration of his contract. With Feaster talking playoffs next year it makes sense that they keep him but it really makes no sense they are talking playoffs next season

In the unlikely event of that happening, it'd be more by sheer dumb luck than strategic planning.

|
In his presser today Feaster went out of his way to reiterate that the Flames keep their business in house and that the report they were shopping Glencross was completely untrue. He then went on to state that over 25 teams called to inquire about Glencross and he flat out told them he wasn't available and didn't listen to any offers. This statement if true should be enough to seriously question if Feaster is the man to lead this rebuild. Not listening to every single offer is irresponsible and lazy. It's almost like he wanted to make a point to the media that unless you hear the information from his mouth you can't trust it.
You always hear people say "X player should not be traded unless there's an offer you can't refuse". Well it's hard to say no to an offer that you won't even listen to.
No one on this current roster should be untouchable. It's not like we have a Crosby, Malkin, or Stamkos on this roster.

Gio as untouchable isn't something that sits well with me. *shrugs* I agree with his other choices though. I'd replace Gio with Backlund.

No it isn't if said player has said he absolutely refuses to waive his nmc. What's the point of beating yourself up with what you may have gotten as compensation? It'll just drive you nuts.

How is Glencross a 2b/3a player and Gio a 3-4 d-man untouchable?
The only players that should be untouchable are franchise players and youngsters that have the potential to become first line forwards and top pairing d-men. For the flames that list should be no longer than Sven and Brodie.

Gio circa 2010 was an untouchable, Gio 2013 should have been dealt yesterday.

It's also really smart for negotiating any deal with Brodie's agent too.

I have a problem with Glencross being untouchable. He can play in all situations, he can score, he can check, he can kill penalties and his contract is cheap. What I don't like about him is his effort. When he is bringing it he is very effective, however I think he is way too inconsistent. He is one of the "ringleaders" when it comes to effortless games. Plus, in spite of what he brings, he is not a 1st line player, so unless he is around to compliment the top line, why bother?
Is there something I am missing about him that makes him so valuable? If everybody wants him, then likely Feaster can get an overpayment for him. Trading Glencross can do more to help the rebuild than keeping him. Unless Feaster is saying he is untouchable to get other GMs to up the ante in their bid to get Glencross. Seems like Feaster will say one thing and then do opposite.
