But one thing to keep in mind about Langkow though is that he was very highly touted the couple of years before he was drafted and slipped to #5 (I am pretty sure he was considered the likely #1 overall pick at one time). He was actually a more prolific scorer in junior than MacKinnon, although I am not sure how the leagues and eras can compare.
With MacKinnon, I see a player that has trended down over the past year. He went from being the consensus #1, to being a top 3 (some people predict him going 4th this year). IMO, you have to be wary of players that are slipping and consider more so players that are trending up.
Not that there is anything wrong with drafting a Langkow in the top 5.

I agree with this.
I'm not a big fan of Nate. I think he is one of the weaker #1 overall picks (if he gets picked there) in a while. Seth Jones hasn't been demolishing the WHL in my viewings of him, but he was absolutely marvelous at the WJCs, 2nd best player in the tourney after Trouba (excluding goalies).
Nate's good too, but I'd easily pick Jones. Then Barkov. After that I pick MacKinnon.

There's no doubt the Flames need a centre, but has MacKinnon proven he is the best player? I'm okay whether the Flames pick him, Jones or Drouin...maybe even Barkov. In fact, as I stated on another thread, if the Flames win the lottery, and identify one of the above as their guy, and know they can get the guy at number three, then why not trade down and pick up more picks? They'd have to be sure they could get their guy at 2/3/4, but they should look into it.

Is Mackinnon a center? Hockeydb has him as a right wing.

As I've said, the top 4 for this draft is blatantly obvious. If we're picking top 4 and blow it, I will not be happy.
Anyway, my order is MacKinnon>Jones>Drouin>Barkov.
I don't see Jones passing by the Avs. Fills too much of a need and the Avs were Jones' favourite team growing up.
MacKinnon looks great in red...

Is Jones' dad Popeye working for the Nuggets therefore workks for the owners of both teams. just seems too perfect of a scenario for the AVs to pass on him if they get that chance.

Yup, avs are already too deep at Center (duchene, o'reilly, stastny).
I see them picking jones or Droin.
For people who follow the CHL closely, how would you compare Monahan vs Mackinnon?
I have been secretly hoping we got monahan for years, as his grandad works at my office, and has been singing his praises since he got drafted by the 67s and progressed tremendously.

Jones
Drouin
Mackinnon
Barkov
If we're picking top 4 I hope Weisbrod has to drive across another blizzard and find the best player in the draft 10 years from now, otherwise watch Feaster satisfy his ego and go off board to again.

Not sure, but just size wise, I'm thinking Monahan might be a better pick in 4th over Barkov.

I haven't seen Monahan much, but he's been described as the best two-way centre in the draft.
He won't have the offence of MacKinnon, but he could be a Selke candidate that puts up 65-70 points a season.

Has anyone see this Andrighetto kid play? http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=9177 He's one of the leading scorers and was undrafted last year. I wonder if he'd be a good late-round steal this year? Though the -23 with 70+ points is somewhat concerning.

His stats are better this season (+25) and 98 points in 53 games. I would take a chance on him.

Take Monahan in 4th or 5th and trade up to 9th or 10th with a couple of first rounders to grab Lazar.
There...centre position taken care of.

A really brief comparison is that Monahan is the two way guy that's got great intangibles and in his prime maybe puts up a point per game should he reach his (projected) potential. Captain material. Think somewhere between Jordan Staal and Jonathan Toews.
Mackinnon is somewhat more of a risk(not saying much since Monahan is considered pretty safe) and is a dynamic first line guy that if he reaches potential could put up 90+ points. Think Tavares-like hands with a bit less shooting ability but marginally better playmaker. Could be a franchise guy.

Barkov has much greater upside, and could feasibly come out as the best player in his class in 5-7 years. He's already 6'3 and 205 andhas been playing in a men's league for 2 years(Putting up .5 ppg as a 16 year old, and almost a ppg this year). He could easily add 10-15 pounds too.

Not much talk about the other D prospects in this draft.
Other than Jones, are there any guys in the first round that legitimately project to be franchise D-men?
...and can any of them step onto an NHL roster as early as next season?

monohan just seems to have that future captain/warrior type aura about him.
I am very excited about the most important draft in flames franchise history.

Two weeks younger and he'd be ineligible.
