Reasonable contract.
Maybe a year too long, and a few $100k too rich, but reasonable.
Semin is a very good player.

The guy is supremely talented and as long as he's motivated he's one of the better players in the league but the money and term is somewhat risky given his flaky nature however as you can see this year the Capitals problems are a lot deeper than Semin no matter how hard Brouwer tries to sell fans and media that the capitals are better off without him.

TSN's headling:
Cementing Semin.
I guess no matter what the headline it's going to sound perverted.

5 years for $25 million would have been a good deal for both sides.

Terrible contract. Semin is around a 5 million dollar guy to me. He has no heart.

I would say as a captain, E. Stall can get more out of him then Ovechkin ever could.

Anyone know why the flames picked Nystrom a few spots before semin? Was it just the obvious 'Russian factor' or did Nystrom at the time have more potential?
another one of many flames draft blunders. it's not like the 2002 draft was that great, but still.

Well, I mean, Semin posted great numbers in Washington for quite some time, till he just started playing the disappearing act. Not sure that is a fair statement.
2006-
77GP 73P
2007: 63GP 42P
2008: 62GP 79P
2009: 73GP 84P
2010: 65GP 54P
So he's always been capable of PPG numbers or close too, similar that he is pulling in now.
The problem with Semin is that he disappears alot, and I hope that doesn't happen to Carolina with this contract.

Would love to see Ruutu in Calgary (despite his injury problems. ) I love the way he plays.

The dollar amount is high, but not unreasonable. The term is the gamble. Has Semin found a team he wantsto spend 5 years with, or is Carolina the first team to offer him a long term deal?
But yeah, Tuomu Ruutu at 5 million, he's not fitting on that roster next year.

Washington has offered, but he's declined and only wanted a short term deal with them.

With the Canadian dollar where it was the Flames couldn't afford the Plutonium either.

You are late to the party by about 8 years. There were huge "Semin vs Nystrom" battles here back then :-)

9 months from now, the Canes are gonna regret this signing.
Basically Semin's getting paid $7M for his play, and $28M for 'coming' onto the team this year and 'exploding' his offense all over the ice. Looks like he's 'sticking around' for a long time.
