I was honestly exptecting Iggy money going to Getzlaf. Did he really deserve a 3 million dollar a year raise? Market cost or not that is a lot of money for an under 20 goal (last three years) a year center?

The people that are calling this overpayment clearly haven't been paying attention to what franchise players have been receiving over the past 5 years. It's a lot of money but as we saw this summer with the Wild teams are willing to pay $$$ for top players and Getzlaff is a franchise guy.
Someone said in another thread that Perry would never get over $8 million in free agency. I hope he now understands.

Jordan Clarke@yyjordan
If Ryan Getzlaf doesn't live up to that contract there's going to be hell toupée.

Good, 25% of their payroll in 2 guys. Sportsnet was tearing Anaheim a new one with how much of a mistake this was. How many guys get paid that much that have never scored 30?

His CV is more impressive than AO's. As other posters have mentioned he does things that aren't always on the stat sheet.

The limit on contract length did exactly what it was intended to do: it kept the cap hit up where it should be.
I like it - they can pay him what they want (it sounds about right) but the cap will accurately reflect it.

I actually respect Getzlaf for not taking the easy way out and shaving his head totally bare like most people who go bald these days. Good for him, I think that got him an extra million.

I think it is overpayment, but they have cap room and once the cap goes up again, it is no big deal. Might be at end of the contract that it is a deal compared to other contracts being signed.
Clearly Getzlaf is doing well, but I cannot shake the lazy hockey player image from when he was a Calgary Hitman.

Getz is an elite #1 center.

Oh yeah, I know. I'm always just surprised by his lower goal totals. He never comes across as a elite passer but I suppose it's the overall game and physical play that gets him those point totals.

People are seriously calling this an overpayment for a top centerman in the league and a franchise player in his prime?
I would have been over the moon if he had signed here for that, we all knew he was never leaving the Ducks tho.
That said, no home town discount whatsoever.

I guess but he really should shave it as the only thing worse than a young man with horseshoe head is the dreaded comb over.

You do have a point. I just have a feeling that the Ducks later on might regret this deal. Also i have a feeling that if the Flames signed him to this very deal via free agency then people would be calling for Feaster's head.

Anyone here not think he is better than Brad Richards? What did he sign for?
What a bullet dodged there.

Well considering most people were ok and on board with a 2nd line center (ROR) makign $6.5M, I think most would be ok.
It will be a bad deal one day, but most long term contracts are. Langkow's deal was a steal early on, bad in its last year; same will be with Brad Richards, same will be with Parise, etc etc etc.
