Did she know someone or have some connection to have an in? This is the e-mail reply I got today in addition to what I was told on the phone yesterday.

Dear Morgin,

Thank you very much for your interest in The Banff Centre. It is our mandate at The Banff Centre that all groups that use our facilities are here for a learning purpose, or have an educational component to their stay/function. Therefore we do not offer our facilities for weddings, or wedding receptions.

Should you have further questions, please contact me directly at the numbers listed below. Thank you again.

I am getting married in 9 days at Local 522 on 6th ave. We didn't want a traditional venue so we are trying this. I see it as a night at the bar with all my friends and family. There is no cost to rent the venue and the food is pretty cheap per head. The booze cost is scary though as we pay full bar price per drink ($5.75 - $8).

Welcome to western canadian anthropological education event featuring a recreation of the ancient western joining ceremony which has been practiced by Canadian settlers for several hundred years.

It's possible they changed their policy since the last wedding. This happened at a venue someone I know was looking at.

WinSport just finished their new facility on the top level of the hockey arenas. Not to mention they have multiple other venues on site.

So, I made the plunge over the weekend and asked my girlfriend to marry me. Of course, this now means that we have a wedding to plan. I am hoping I can use the eternal wisdom of CP to find some suggestions for wedding venues for approx. 125-150 ppl in Calgary (well ones that haven't been mentioned in this thread so far) and some first hand accounts on what they were like.

Hopefully some of you have some creative Ideas for venues.

Congrats, Maccalus. I would suggest:

Valley Ridge
Cochrane Ranch House

We ended up being really pleased by Fort Calgary. Very reasonably priced, great food and no GST as they are non-profit. My friend just had a hall wedding, and I'd have to ask who the caterer was, but one of the items was hand made perogies. The food was deadly.
