Thinner blood has an easier time flowing past the clot because there is better laminar flow, thereby delivering more oxygen to the infarcting/injured area. The marginal increase in PO2 would have no effect on tissue oxygenation. Also PO2's run on different machines have an acceptable variance of +/- 6 so the slight increase in PO2 could just be from margin of error. Aside from fatigue from not being able to practice hard, blood thinners have pretty much no effect on oxygen content and delivery and would not cause a professional athlete any increased fatigue.

Oh I read it alright... didn't comprehend it but I read it, thrice in fact. It seemed like a pretty compelling argument one way or the other.

If he can get 5 pts in 8 games while adjusting to the pace of the game and getting his feet under him then I'm quite pleased and hope that is his base performance and he can increase it a bit. If, when up to speed, he's a 60+ point guy we shouldn't be complaining...and it's pretty tough to complain when he's currently a 50ish point guy.

Give him a chance to, first, recover physically, and then second, recover athletically.

I actually forgot about the blood thinners for some reason. I suppose that and the fact that maybe he wasn't skating or practicing for a while has a lot to do with it.

I hope he continues to improve on the ice, and wants to re-sign in Calgary. It is nice to have creative forwards playing on this team.

Agree 100%.
I think we should start a Roman Cervenka fan club -- give the dude a little love (no homo) being in a new country and away from family. I nominate calgaryboy to be our foreign correspondent, and Aeneas to be our local Czech/Canadian relations liaison. Jiri Hudler can be the honorary vice-chair.
Anybody else in?!?

I am already a member of the Cervenka fan club!
I can't wait to see what he can do once he's up to game shape and feeling comfortable.

Blood doping is all the rage in professional sports over the last 30 years because of the massive positive effect it has on high level athletes.
Oxygen vector drugs like EPO thicken the blood by making the body create more oxygen carrying red blood cells. An example is Lance Armstrong.
Thinners have the opposite effect, therefore less oxygen gets to muscles. Even with more coronary flow.
For that one study cited above there are like 10,000 that say the opposite.

Negative, there are no effects what so ever in regards to conditioning. The only issue is the blood being to thin and not being able to take contact.

I'm 99% sure Street Pharmacist is an actual pharmacist and 99% sure that Machiavelli is a doctor. Can't speak for anyone else though.

agree. If someone pretends to be something they aren't eventually they slip up and the truth comes out.
The only comment related to blood thinners i can make is...
My sister was on blood thinners for about a 6 weeks and while she was on them she would bruise easy like if she bumped into something or banged her leg or something and the it was noticeable that she was lacking in energy until she was fully recovered.

Obviously no one in Calgary or Canada are experts in the hematology field, otherwise he wouldn't have had to go to Phoenix to get a proper diagnosis! (j/k)
Put me in the Cervenka fan camp, but still probably to early to worry about re-signing him. If they do want to do a mid season extension I would hope it would be for 2 years at most. Anything more would be a big risk for the fames and maybe he thinks he can get a bigger pay day after a few more years.

Czech article about Cervas:
http://hokej.idnes.cz/roman-cervenka...131648_nhl_lge
Czech media already noticing his ice time is cut /2:57 last game/, being healthy scratch against Minny etc. Translation of Hartley ´s words about not being in the best shape, coach wants more from him etc. Headline: Cervenka is on the edge of the roster - They want him to be more composed.......
I am a little bit dissapointed how things work with Cervas in a Flames uniform, he can be excellent player, pure shooter, but getting used to new enviroment, new hockey system, new country, not being with family along with not good shape after that injury...all together, not as good as he could be...
I hope it will turn ok in next few weeks....
Greetings from Czech republic guys!
P.S: No words from Cervenka in that article.........
