this.
the whining on this board when nobody pays attention to the slightest miniscule thing the flames do, while the other team is beating us down is pathetic.
show some stones
i remember way back when the flames beat vancouver in the playoffs, EVERYONE was jerking off allover the hard work and great play of kipp.
even after that when the flames were tough and skilled, they were the talk of the town and when they got the joker, they were favorites.
now everyone's all full of pish and vinegar
sorry to go a little ot

I like Iginla, I think he's a good guy. He's been a warrior for the Flames. But he has one of the biggest gaps between being on and off of any player I've seen wear a Flames jersey since maybe Kent Nilsson.
That just isn't acceptable when you're a captain.
I have my head fully around the idea that he isn't 25 any more, and I expect and have no problem with a decline.
But when you don't seem to care about defensive coverage, you stop skating when you get the puck, and you lose every single battle including the turn over that leads to Minnesota's only goal?
You're not showing up.
He's better than that, and last night it looks like he was angry enough to prove it.
Hope Warrener rides him all season.
|
This is and has always been the case with Iginla, when teams leave him alone and don't piss him off, he generally flies under the radar and plays without a tonne of spark or fire......the moment he's pissed off, wants to scrap someone, he gets fired up and plays like the player we all want to see....this has been the case with him for a while now. I wouldn't go as far to say he seems like he isn't trying, more like he seems disinterested.
This is the main reason i say trade him, this team goes as far as he'll carry them and they rely on him playing the way he did last night. Him playing that way get's the rest of the boys going and raises every other guys compete level. We just don't see enough of it from him anymore and it's affecting the team too much. Iginla last night was the Iginla from '04 when a cup was in view....he was dominating. Would love to see that fire night in night out....loved seeing him drop the gloves!!!!

With the exception of Cervenka, it would be hard not to believe that every single Flame was aware of Rhett's comments yesterday morning.
Jarome made a statement not only to Rhett, but more importantly to his teammates, last night.
Good for Jarome. Hope he continues on in the same manner.
As far as Rhett goes...you would have to go a long ways to find a grittier, more competitive and honest player.
He told the truth with grace and was not at all harsh in his evaluation of Jarome .
How does that make him a dolt?

seriously? You really think a superstar veteran who been around as long as Iginla and done as much as he has, really gives a **** what Rhett Warner thinks. Do you really think he got in a fight last night because of Warner's comments? Maybe he knew his team could not afford to lose a second home game in a row. Maybe the fight was to fire up his teammates and not to "show Rhett Warner". Jeez, can't believe you people.

After the game a couple of his teammates said that they heard the comments in the "media" and by fans and insinuated that Iginla had also. I believe it was Tanguay that went on to say that Iginla had something to prove and that he did just that.
Besides, Iginla is human and his feelings get hurt. Also, he's a professional and takes pride in his job. I think anyone getting called out, depending on who's doing the calling out, can be impacted by it.

Personally, I can't stand Warrener. I get uncomfortable hearing a retired player talking about an ex teammate. It strikes me as sleazy. He may be telling it like it is, but it comes across as a betrayal to me. I really don't feel enriched by anything he has to say at all.

The only reason I disagree is that I get/got the sense that Warriner was this way when he played.
I don't like a guy that kept quiet while playing and now comes out with "relevations" but Warriner even while playing seemed like a guy that had no problem saying stuff.
I think Warriner would have said this stuff to Iginlas face if still playing and isn't using it to make a name for himself.

Sure, and it probably made him a good teammate. My dislike stems from my general distaste for so called "insiders." Will anybody want to hear Warriner in the future when none of the players he comments on are ex teammates though? I'm thinking his shelf life will be limited as an on air personality.

And it makes me wonder how well-loved he is by current players. I'm guessing he's not.

I read in the paper that Iginla declined to speak to reporters after the game last night. Is that normal? Doesn't he always talk to reporters, especially after a win?
Could be nothing. I thought it was interesting.

It was the right decision. Someone would have asked about Warriner's comments. Anything he would have had to say about that would just stir the pot more. Best to just walk away from it.He did his talking on the ice.

Spoke to someone that is very close to him today and teased them about the comments and how it was irresponsible for Rhett to make speculations because some fans will take them as fact. I was told it was no surprise because Rhett has always disliked Iginla.

I think his insider knowledge comes from being in a lot of lockerrooms not just the Flames and that doesn't change over time.

As a hockey player, Rhetro was always an honest, gritty defenseman who every Flames fan loved. As a person, it's hard to give him a positive label. I'm not going to spread stories, because, well, it's the internet and anyone can say anything, but I know enough about him to really, really question the way that man carries himself.

I can't believe some people think Warrener's comments had nothing to do with Iginla's play in that game. It would have to be some awfully enormous coincidence that he plays his grittiest "old school Iginla" type game in years immediately after those comments made by an ex teammate on air in the city he lives.
I would bet that Iggy is still friends with Warrener and there's some level of mutual respect there and it was probably a bit of a wake up call for him...whether he wants to admit it or not.

From listening to Warrener I think it is evident that he isn't the biggest fan of Iginla for whatever reason. He is careful when he talks about Iggy but he never really gives him that much respect in his comments. He offers much more praise for Kipper when reminiscing about his playing career.
When asked if Bure was the best player he played with he said that Hasek and Kipper were. Didn't even mention Iginla
I have no problem with his recent comments though. Iginla was terrible against Minnesota, but I knew that it would take a performance like that to turn his game around. He will be good for the rest of the year now, so thanks Rhett

I believe you were told a complete lie, Iggy had one arguement with Rhett over curfew issues once and that was the end of it(this was in 05 I believe), Rhett's lifestyle was different than Iginla's but I know for a fact Rhett respected him and liked him as a person.
Something possibly may have happened recently between them but I know while they were teammates it was "all good"

Yeah, a dolt. I can't imagine the things Warrener would have to say about some former player calling his teammates "a joke" if he was still lacing it up every day. I don't mind is approach "refreshing" as others do, I think he's being hypocritical. I'd imagine your view would be different if late down the stretch last year Warrener called Jokinen a joke of a player. You wouldn't find it so refreshing then I'd imagine.
