My folks were quite involved with the volunteering for the Olympics.

Prior to the Olympics they were hosts at the Olympic Information centre in Palliser square which provided them with the opportunity to meet all of the visiting dignitaries who came to the city in the two years prior to the games (they would often bring my sister and I along - in a shoebox somewhere are a bunch of photos of us with royalty, politicians and actors who stopped by).

Here is a copy of the (very cheesy) orientation video shown to all visitors who stopped by the centre.

3 years? Are you sure you weren't in North Korea?

Being an Olympic licensee we had our own pins made and of course I was able to trade them for quite a nice collection.I had people frantically pulling me over because we had the Calgary Olympic logo on our vehicle just to trade or beg or buy a pin from me. LOL

I was able to go across Canada during the Olympic Torch Run Ceremonies and meet so many people from all over this great country.

It was a great time and fantastic experience and one I am very proud to have been a part of, especially as a born and raised Calgarian.
Are you talking about these candles?

Our family had moved from Calgary to Toronto 2 years before the Olympics. I remember how badly I wanted one of those candles but didn't think I could get one in Ontario. We had an aunt in Calgary mail us a couple and my brother and I brought them with us to watch the torch relay when it came through. To our surprise everyone there had the candles we had gone to great lengths to track down. They probably got them from you.

I was in grade 4.Every kid got a candle for the torch run.

Me, my Mom ,and my older brother went to the swiss/ sweden game. One player hit the puck over the boards and it went rolling down the steel stairs.I jumped out of my Isle seat waiting for the puck.As i grabbed it rollling down the stairs I noticed a fat man shaking the stairs trying to get my puck.He stepped on my hand and took the puck.My mom flipped, swore like a drunkin sailor and i got the puck back and still have it today.

Yup those candles. They were distributed by the Lions Clubs of Canada however when local Lions chapters did not want to be involved we would seek out a local amatuer kids hockey/ ringette coach and team and get them involved in sales.

I got them to sell the candles at the cerimony for $2.00 the team or local organization would recieve $1.00 for every candle sold. They did not have to buy stock I just gave them the candles to sell and at the end of the cerimony collected any left over candles and our share of the money. A great no risk fund raiser for them.

I had some local hockey teams raise more than $1000 in the span of a few hours.

It was nice to give back to these communities and proceeds always went to a good cause.

Truth be told I was pretty upset that he got chosen for that scene as my 12-year-old self was hoping to get it.

Instead I am in the video about 4 other places - none as exciting as the ski-jumping simulator.

To be perfectly fair seeing a 12 year old making that face I would pick someone else too.

So were those your real parents, or fake actor parents?
