Enough with terms like "delusional" or "kool aid", if you disagree with the other poster do so without deriding them and accept that not everyone has to agree with you or they are worthy of insults.

That being said, Irving has been known to struggle if the game loses a calm pace. When he's forced to move a lot, he'll misread plays and take the wrong option. This is something we'll have to differentiate him from Kiprusoff in: where Kiprusof will excel due to excellent mental conditioning and strong leg movement, Irving will struggle. The shootout just showed us how much Irving relies on the system in front of him. Kiprusoff isn't any better, but for different reasons (that Kiprusoff is extremely passive in shootouts - when he actively makes mini poke checks, he can force shots into his legs).
In terms of the game, Irving and Hudler got them a point, but the couldn't get the second point alone.

Was this the case in the WHL/AHL?
He does look slow compared to Kiprusoff, but Kiprusoff is in a class of his own.

“At the point in time two weeks from now, when Kipper is ready to go, then we’ll determine who is going to be the backup goaltender on this team,” Feaster said.
“I think Leland Irving thus far as acquitted himself very, very well. So now we have Leland Irving who is trying to demonstrate that he wants to be a No. 1 in the National Hockey League and can be. And we also have a 33-year-old backup who has 101 games of experience on his resume.
“In terms of Leland, keep doing what you’re doing and put us in a situation where two weeks from now the answer is obvious.”

"From my perspective, the fact the number one goaltender is out, that ought to cause every guy in that room to raise their level that much higher," Feaster said. "They ought to look at a kid like Leland Irving and say 'This guy is busting his backside giving us a chance to win every game. How about if we step up and do our part?'
"Two weeks from now, we'll know that we're either in the pack or we've fallen terribly behind, but we'll know it based on team play and not because of the play of one guy."

"It was a quick turnaround, but I was excited," MacDonald said. "I'm just going to come in here and give myself an opportunity to play. Practice is huge especially coming off a back injury like I was over the last year. Once I get the opportunity, give myself a chance to win."

Not really a bad thing. Some good rest for Kipper could have him back playing like he has the past few seasons. While he's out, it gives Irving a shot to prove he can take over for Kipper.

Well, considering the lockout didn't rest him enough to get back to even last year's level I wouldn't hold your breath on that.

Too bad Ramo is still in the KHL, would've loved to see him start a game or 3 to see how he looks.

Hmm, let's look at the standings.
Behind us: Colorado; beat us on our home ice despite being tired and crippled. By three goals.
And that's it.
In front of us:
Columbus: We barely beat them.
LA, cup champions from last year.
Minnesota, beat us on our home ice.
Edmonton. Okay these guys we can beat. Although to match their record so far we need to win both our next games with a combined +7 goal differential.
...unless Irving turns out to be an '04 model Kipper, top 5 pick here we come.
