He is much better than Loubardias and the other two idiots Sportsnet has doing Oiler and Canucks games but that isn't saying much as they are all pretty awful. But it is Sportsnet so not too surprising they have awful talent based on the crisp they have on their Cinnected broadcasts.

Millions was by far the best and it would great to see him back doing play by play and Kerr back to the fan where he was really good.

Kerr is brutal and what the hell was he trying to do feed simmer a snowball like it was there wedding day even Simmer wanted to say WTF. I really wish Peter Loubardias was back calling the games for the Flames

Bottom line I think that most, even those that don't mind him or care either way, can agree that doing play by play is not something that comes natural for Kerr.

He's well prepared, has all sorts of stories and interesting tidbits and stats. That's what he's good at, and that's why he did so well on radio. He's tried to use all that preparation and those stats that to get himself through the games, but often at the expense of a disjointed call of the game or missing things.

It does seem this year that he's toned down the quantity of info, though maybe not the times he uses it; about 3 times before the third period even started, he dropped the info about the last 3 times the Flames played CLB there were shootouts.

But the play by play is all over the place still. The intonation and inflection in his voice doesn't seem to match the game, the buildup of plays isnt matched by the buildup in his words, the goal calls are all over the map, and the OT one last night is over the top considering the situations and knowing Kerr's personality, seemingly a bit of the case of trying too hard to manufacture emotion.

As a sidebar, I never minded Simmer under Loubardias, but he's either been told, or figures he has to help the rookie Kerr out, and is talking more to help him out...and more isnt better, especially when its just repeating himself or recycling the same phrases or applying the same cliches for numerous situations.

Sure, Kerr is learning what works and what doesn't and is trying to get better. However, this isn't the time/place/situation to be having to try and learn something that doesn't come natural to you, when there are any number of more natural play by play callers out there, including the last two the Flames used, that this comes more natural to them. There are 36-40 jobs as play by play guy in the NHL, its not the training ground to learn the craft.

And, none of this is his fault. For whatever reason they decided to turf Loubardias, they did...Kerr applied or got approached to do it, and someone made the decision to go with him, and he's done his best he can in the situation, heck, I'd do it and try to learn on the go if they asked me...but it just isn't something that comes natural to him and IMO that's not the most polished product the Flames are putting out as a brand to the fans who have to listen to that for 50+ games, or for Kerr (though I won't speak for him) to be in that situation where he's over his head.

Not sure why posters don't like Kerr's "goal" call's. At home i jump off my couch and start cheering at the tv when a big goal is scored. It's nice to know that there is someone out there that feels the same way when the flames score a big goal.

I start to understand why the Dome is labelled "the library" if posters can't even get behind someone showing emotion on tv, how would they be able to do it live.

I honestly don't care about all about PBP. It could be Peter Mahr, Bob Cole, Osama Bin Laden, I don't give a crap. I watch the game to cheer on my team, not hear what they have to say. Kerr gets excited and sometimes stumbles on his words. News Flash: EVERYONE does that. It's a tough job he's got, but I think he does a fine job and he's gotten better as time goes on.

I miss Roger Millions' PBP the most, but at the end of the day all I care about is WATCHING the team play.

Let's give Kerr this year to see how excited he gets.
I think play-by-play has changed a bit more where instead of "describe action, analyze action, describe action, analyze action, repeat" it's more silliness and more conversation between the two. Kerr is a fan like us which is refreshing too. He yells when we yell.

Now I know that Detroit has snowballs and Columbus has a cannon.
When he goes to San Jose he'll probably get eaten by the mascot.

Loubardias wasn't bad, but his voice killed him.

It's like a mix of elmer fudd, Seinfeld's girlfriend with the annoying voice, and a 1950's gangsta.

When i hear him on the Fan i have to turn the station.

I miss his PBP because when he was calling Flames games we were winning more and making the playoffs every year.

Csucker! and we were doing so well!!!

It really isn't. And he has the kind of voice that turns people into homicidal maniacs.

Totally agree, especially with the fact Simmer needs some new lines. However the bolded part, that's the first Flames road overtime goal in 3 years! I would have called it the exact same way!

I like that Kerr is well prepared and as I mentioned above, I like that the two of them have some banter back and forth.

In the thread people can flame away, as harsh comments are associated to the individual poster.

Kerr's wackiness has made him more endearing.
I'm okay with changing the topic title (I think the Mods need to do that right?). My intent was not to be disrespectful - just curious to what reactions/emotions he brings out of the fan base.
Mods, please change the title to something more respectful. Thanks.

Good guy, great radio personality...but...when watching a hockey broadcast I shouldn't notice the announcers. I certainly shouldn't make this face while watching...

His voice doesn't jive with my brain. My brain has a hard time listening to Rob Kerr. I can't count how many times he's jumped the gun on plays, called the wrong names out, talked about bizarre and obscure stats.

He's not embarrassing...that's the wrong statement, he's a good hockey guy, but I watch other broadcasts and while this may be a Sportsnet issue as a whole, the Flames' broadcast comes across as amateur hour.

I love having Robb Kerr calling Flames games.

I also love having Pete Lombardius on the Fan960.
