Sven did stay in junior after being drafted and isn't nearly as skinny as RNH not sure how those situations are all that similar.

Sure does, which is exactly what the Flames did.

Better team? Not by a long shot. Yes, the oilers have some excellent young players and their future may appear to some to be brighter than ours. What remains to be seen, however, is whether or not these individual young "stars" can gel into a cohesive unit and actually win consistently - and that's just the forwards I'm talking about. The defense corps admittedly looks better than it has, but is still pretty thin by most standards and their standout guy (Schultz) is unproven. Oh yeah....and they don't have a goaltender.
It blows me away how year after year people are ready to drink the oiler kool-aid just because they have a raft of first-overall draft picks. Maybe we should wait and see if they actually win any games before we start engraving their names on the cup.

Absolutely.
Which is why he is becoming a full time NHLer at the age of 20, being stronger and more mature than he was at 18.

Who said Eberle was a fluke? I missed that comment in the thread.

I don't think he's a fluke either but you should also point out that Eberle plays more sheltered minutes than Hall. The dude barely leaves the ice on a power play and has ridiculous OZone start %age. Hall was initially super sheltered but is becoming less so year after year. Not that he's playing tough minutes by any stretch but compared to Ebs and RNH...

Don't get this at all... I mean, let's say you're being generous. In that case, I guess the Oilers don't have to consistently finish ahead of the Flames for a couple years to be called the "better team", although you'd think they would. Maybe they don't even have to finish ahead of the Flames for one season, although you'd definitely think they'd have to do at least that before you called them the "better team". But wouldn't they have to finish better than 2nd worst in the league before you can call them "better" than the Flames? Don't they at least need to do that first?

Seriously, the Flames are handing it to nobody this year. We suck. The credibility of this forum as legitimate source of NHL discussion drops daily with the blind Flames love-in here.

You're welcome to go over to HF, where a player who hasn't touched the ice in an NHL game is the most highly coveted asset there is.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll be watching just the same because I think we can hand it to several teams this year. Either way, with new faces and a new coaching staff, it should be interesting.

"Marc-Andre Pouliot" agrees with how useless they are.

Nugent-Hopkins played at 180-185 last year, not 160.
Can you prove that he got injured as a result of his size/physical stature? I always see people say that small players get injured more often or more seriously than bigger players, but never anything to back it up.
Some people think it's just common sense, but I've never seen anything to support the idea.

He is listed at 180lbs now, but he was quite clearly smaller last year. Hell, he's still small now compared to other guys his size.
Why it matters? Because of the obvious. Less weight = less muscle mass for NHL players considering most play at -10% body fat. Less muscle means they get pushed around more easily in a game where everyone is bigger, stronger and faster. Their bodies can't handle it, so they become more susceptible to injury.
This isn't the first time the Oilers have rushed younger players. You better just hope they don't ruin RNH.

No. Sven already had the extra year in junior that RNH never had.

Hmmmm....interesting observation, though no idea what it is based on.
The oilers finished 29th in the nHL last year and have added, an 18 YO Yakupov, a 22 YO Schultz and Mark Fistric to that team.
The Flames finished 17th in the NHL...added a 46 pt Dman, a 50 pt forward, and an unknown in cervenka.
Yeah...logically the Oilers are certainly "finally" a better team...makes all kinds of sense.
