It might but I doubt it. 2016-17 is the last year of Wideman's contract. Monahan, Giordano, Brodie, and Backlund could have big raises by that time but that's about it. I don't think we need to worry about Wideman's salary when the Flames still have a lot of cap space. If you really need to buy him out you can do that before his last season. Doing it this off-season would be silly.
