Mental illness isn't a spin. What the hell, man?

You'd be really, and mean really hard pressed to find a 20 year old with a mortgage and car loan now a days. Although, I would question if that was ever more than a rarity.
Yes but you're considering a kid as someone who is dependent on parents/guardians. Which is true and fair. But I think pylon is more referring to the maturity/stupidity angle. The guy is a full grown adult male with (presumably) the capacity for adult intelligence. Whether stupid or psychotic (I would think its somehwre in between) his age has zero to do with it. If he's stupid enough to light an unconcious person on fire at 20, thinking there will be no negative outcomes, he will likely be that stupid at age 40.

You could argue maybe he will learn now, but judging from his FB photos i would say him and his friends have been severely burned multiple times and have yet to figure it out.

I was responding specifically to his comment about how this generation is attached to the teet, not in relation to this story. Sorry, should have been more clear.

For me, it comes down to the fact that it's just not a reality for me to own a house, a car, etc. and enjoy the quality of life I want right now. Add to this the fact that I disagree immensely with bourgeois morality, and the way in which we're tacitly condoning the suppression and disenfranchisement of the middle class, in exchange for the enrichment and greed of an increasingly tyrannical corporate class, and I just honestly don't feel like participating in a meaningful way.

So yeah, I'm gonna continue to be immature and do my own thing because I don't feel I have any obligation to do anything else.

I find some of the posts in this thread mind boggling, how anyone can pass this off as just a prank gone wrong or hey he's just a kid ive done stupid things too when i was drunk is just beyond comprehension.

There is a reason the youth of today(i know he is 20) is a mass of entitled, self righteous, rioting, protesting dbags they are because everything they do is shrugged off with no consequences. There is an excuse for little Johnny f*%@ face for everything he does, hey want to piss on a homeless guy in the subway no problem little Johnny was just playing around, set a guy on fire? well who doesnt like a campfire with a cold beer? Its time to stop making excuses for these pukes its not helping us or them.

Sorry for the rant and i truly do not think my generation or my fathers etc where perfect little angels but man it really seems like these kids do what they want when they want without many if any restrictions, they certainly know even if they do cross a line rarely does anything of consequence happen to them so why not run wild.

^^^ I'm not saying there should be no consequences, as I outlined before. I'm just saying it's hardly a 'what is wrong with the youth of today' type moment. We've heard childhood stories from people on this board, and I from my parents or elders that are as stupid.

Every generation looks at their own with rose colored glasses. Every generation cries about the one after them and how easy they have it or how entitled they are. It's just the way of the world. If things were getting progressively worse with each successive generation the world would have ended a long long time ago.

We see and hear about this stuff more because of the media we have, and the instant access to dumb stories. Not because it's happening more. Same as we all feel want to come down hard on crime and wonder where all these bad guys came from, when in fact we live in one of the safest cities, in one of the safest countries, in the safest period of time on earth!

It's just the bombardment of media man. Take a deep breath and look with a little honesty and perspective.

And as said before, I'm not against this boy/man getting punished. He does deserve some punishment for sure. I just wish some people on this board and in the world in general would give it a rest with 'dumb kids these days'. It's really not how it is at all.

In truth, all generations suck and are stupid. Probably pretty equally.

^^

I actually commented on how i in no way think my or any other generation that came before me is ideal or perfect. That being said there is no way anyone can say this generation isn't pushing the limits of decency, respect and common sense.

Its not the bombardment of media, no question it raises cases many of us may never had heard but that in no way changes the fact that the level of violence and senseless attacks is on the rise, the school shootings alone are proof of this.

As was mentioned earlier i like others got as drunk as a person can get as often as a kid can get and so did my friends and somehow we managed not to kill, assault or send anyone to the hospital with severe injuries. No one got shot, burnt or stabbed but maybe we just didnt know how to party.

Listen i dont think every kid is bad but to me its obvious the respect and care level of some of these kids is non-existent they dont respect elders they dont respect each other. They have been coddled and told they are the most special and unique person in the world im mean hell we cant give them zeros in scool for work not done anymore might damage his/her fragile ego.

Anyway i know its not all kids but i find it hard to believe anyone cant see the extreme violence and lack of empathy so many of these kids show now adays.

It's pretty much the same as it has always been, if not more tame. There is just more media coverage that sensationalizes it.

My dad used to tell stories of them trying to smash kids heads in with watermelon sized rocks during recess, or severing fingers by smashing the doors of the school closed after sliding in on a sheet of ice.
