Some good bands playing, but the lineup is a little weak compared to previous years (2010)
Burning Love
Vapid/White Lung
Thee Oh Sees (even though I would much rather see the Coachwhips)
OFF!

It's looking to be another stellar lineup. Too many good bands to see is definitely a nice problem to have.

You won't be disappointed. I saw OFF! here in Vancouver and they were amazing. As long as Keith doesn't have issues with his diabetes like he did recently, you're in for a treat.
The best part was because at the time, they didn't have a huge set list, instead of an encore, they just played their entire set twice.

I'm sure I'll love it. I'll love it even more if Superchunk ends up playing a secret show or something so I don't miss them.

Did anyone brave the weather at Luke's Drug Mart yesterday in Bridgeland to see the Rural Alberta Advantage in one of the Sled Island "pre shows"?
First off, amazing show. RAA is one of my faves.
Secondly, stage diving drunk native man = epic.

If you haven't heard of them, check out the Divine Fits on the Saturday (22nd) at Flames Central. They are a super group formed by the lead singers of Spoon and Wolf Parade. I saw them at Coachella this year and they were unreal.
Unfortunately I agreed to help my friend put up a fence that day... FML.

I am completely overwhelmed by the number of concerts. There are 5 different bands I want to see on Friday night all playing within a 3 hour period of each other at 5 different venues.

I was volunteering at Sled HQ on Saturday. One girl was organizing the arrival details for bands, including Jesus and Mary Chain. They are really coming.

Got my tickets for Joel @ Flames Central, I'm really looking forward to it.
I haven't seen him play live since the Thrush Hermit days (circa 1999).

Tonight:
Sled Island Poster Show - 6 pm at Milk Tiger Lounge (1410 4 St SW)
Sled Island is proud to present the seventh annual Sled Island Poster Show. This is a rare opportunity to pair local designers, tattoo artists and illustrators with musicians playing the festival. For collectors, this is your chance to own a limited edition three-colour poster, hand silk-screened by Goodchild Cartel. Pick up 2013 posters at Milk Tiger Lounge from June 18 through to July, at select festival venues, and at the Republik Closing Party on Sunday, June 23rd.
Sled Island Kick Off - 8 pm at Commonwealth Bar & Stage (733 10 Avenue SW): Teledrome, Samantha Savage Smith, Chains of Love, HighKicks, Wild Rose Soul Club DJs
Commonwealth Downstairs (733 10 Avenue SW) 9 pm - Gold, The Gooeys, Victories, Extra Happy Ghost!!!
y mucho mas:

Pick up your passes at the Palliser Hotel.
Monday night I helped deliver beer and Red Bull to the Artists Lounge - at the top of the Calgary Tower. Red Bull set-up a DJ table.

Commonwealth was packed upstairs and downstairs. Chains of Love (from Vancouver) were the best band I saw. Four great musicians supporting a singer with the look and charisma of a young Tina Turner. Too bad, I think last night was their only appearance at Sled this year.
