I agree with most of this (not much into karma) but I think if you do the right thing more often than not you'll feel better about yourself.

Doubt I would keep it, but if you want to drop 10k on my sidewalk you'll find out for sure!

same goes for me..

in my teenage years I would take it and never say a word.. these days even at a tender age of 21 I feel bad even when I see an old person trying to cross the street, definitely through some age and maturity your moral compass changes, and thinking maybe that 10K belongs to someone that REALLY needs it, has a family.. damn anything would destroy my conscientious, and I would be extremely anxious and nervous holding that amount of money not belonging to me

And right there is why religious people say that atheists a generally less moral people than theists.

I choose to be good because it's the right thing to do. Self-interest doesn't always need to be the primary motivator.

Love your sig.

Appropriate to the discussion.

Is there some kind of law or regulation where if no one claims the money then its yours after a certain period? That would change a lot of answers here.

The other thing I wonder is say the money belonged to someone you knew of (not knew directly). Does that change things? Like a wallet belonging to Murray Edwards, or Brett Wilson? You know that they don't "need" the $10k, so do you keep it then?

I see. Well, it seems I'm going to have to start ID'ing all of my $10,000 bills.

Is my SIN number good enough? Or should I include my address as well?
